    Position summary

    We are seeking a Senior Valuation Controller to support our global Commodities Markets & Finance business, with a focus on Energy markets. The Commodities Markets & Finance group provides clients with risk and capital solutions across physical and financial markets. Traded energy products include natural gas, power, crude oil, coal, refined products and carbon emissions. In addition, the division is active across all physical energy products: natural gas, power, LNG, oil, NGLs and coal. Energy Markets also provides storage and transportation services, and commodities-based financing.

    In this role you will be a key participant in expanding the capabilities and responsibilities of our Global Markets Finance team.

    Your key responsibilities will include:

    • reporting key results to various committees, senior management and Business Heads.
    • day to day management of a team of valuation controllers responsible for ensuring the positions held in the Energy business are valued at fair market value.
    • ongoing assessment of valuation methods to ensure risks are accurately reported.
    • calculating complex valuation adjustments required for exotic or unobservable assets.
    • provide commentary on areas of valuation judgement for inclusion in financial reports.
    • reviewing new business and product proposals.
    • advising the product control team on large PnL substantiation.
    • documenting and reviewing policies, procedures and testing methods applied to determine fair value.
    • responding to internal and external audit queries around policies, procedures and methods.

    To be successful in this role you will have:

    • relevant experience (min 8 years) in a similar role with a leading investment bank or trading business (such as valuation control, product control or market risk).
    • a strong technical understanding of financial products and markets.
    • an interest in building a career in risk management.
    • the ability to critically analyze information.
    • clear and concise communication, both verbal and written.
    • initiative and the ability to work unsupervised.
    • the ability to see tasks through to completion. 
    • comfort tackling new concepts and ideas associated with on-going change in the business.

    About the Financial Management & Commodities Markets and Finance Groups

    The Financial Management Group provides financial, tax and treasury services to all areas of Macquarie. The group is focused on providing strategic analysis and advice to Macquarie's businesses and senior management, managing Macquarie's funding, liquidity and capital position, ensuring Macquarie continues to meet regulatory and compliance obligations and managing Macquarie's corporate affairs.

    The group is focused on three key outcomes:

    • Managing the Macquarie balance sheet and profit and loss optimally and strategically
    • Adding value to Macquarie's senior management and its businesses by providing advice and analysis that is strategic, timely, accurate and comprehensive
    • Ensuring Macquarie continues to meet the obligations within its regulatory and compliance framework

    The Commodities Markets and Finance (CMF) is a global business with operations across North America, Australia, Europe and Asia.  The Division provides tailored risk management solutions to an international client base through over-the-counter derivatives and physical commodities.  Products traded include crude and oil products, distillates, fuel oils, natural gas, electricity and coal.
