Job Description

MSK is seeking a Manager of Cancer Registry to manage and coordinate the activities of the Cancer Registry and a staff of 20 high performing individuals (mostly telecommuters).

 

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all activities relative to planning, analyzing and controlling operations of the Cancer Registry.
    Supervise the collection of data to create and maintain databases for projects and studies. Complete all required documentation and produce relevant reports.
  • Ensure all data is abstracted in accordance with established American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer (ACoS CoC) standards, New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) standards and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) guidelines, and others as needed.
  • Develop and implement new regulatory and MSKCC requirements. Ensure institutional compliance with regulatory and agency standards, including the ACoS CoC, NYS & NJ DOH, National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA) and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
  • Ensure that all malignancies and reportable diseases are accessioned into the Cancer Database (CDB) within the established regulatory time frames to create cancer profiles and identify needed updates to the CDB.
  • Monitor quality control standards for the CDB to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and to maximize efficiency.
  • Serve as subject matter expert for cancer registry data both within MSK and with external bodies.
    Oversee the hiring, orienting, training and evaluating of staff. Provide guidance, feedback, and opportunities for development, as appropriate.

 

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s Degree and Certified Tumor Registrar Certification.
  • Strong management skills; preferably experience overseeing large groups of CTRs and in particular, staff working off site.
  • Proven ability to orient, train, and provide ongoing supervision of Cancer Registry staff.
  • Proficiency in the use of Cancer Registry software program(s), preferably Metriq.
  • Familiarity with all current and relevant Cancer Registry reference materials and manuals, including but not limited to: ICDO coding, SEER Stage Coding; AJCC TNM Staging; FORDS Coding, Collaborative Staging, Multiple Primary and Histology Coding and Hematopoietic Database.
  • Current comparable Cancer Registry experience.
  • Proficiency in Report Writer software (e.g. Crystal) with ability to write queries and produce reports, preferred.
  • Experience in abstracting cancer cases in a Tumor Registry.
  • Strong analytic skills to facilitate efficient operations and effective data reporting.
