    Position summary

    Embedded in a worldwide network Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America continuously strives to remain at the forefront of successful automotive research and development. MBRDNA is headquartered in Silicon Valley, California, with key areas of Autonomous Driving, Advanced Interaction Design, Digital User Experience, Machine Learning, Customer Research, and Open Innovation. In Farmington Hills, Michigan, the focus is on Powertrain and eDrive technology as well as in Long Beach, where the teams test durability of the latest driver assistant and telematic systems. The Digital Hub in Seattle focusses on developing a cloud architecture and building out the cloud platform for the next generation of connected car services. The Testing and Regulatory Affairs Division in Ann Arbor and the Advanced Vehicle Design in Carlsbad complete the competence center.

    Local Compliance Officer

    Coordinate the implementation and maintenance of an effective Compliance Management System for all relevant areas at Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America, Inc.

    Support the legal technical compliance team (IL/LUC) in the implementation and maintenance of an effective Technical Compliance Management System (tCMS).

    Technical Compliance Counsel

    Support Legal Technical Compliance Team, including:

    o providing legal advice, support, and analysis for management and business units on product-

       related topics.

    o Create and implement policies and practices to ensure consistent implementation of legal

       guidance and alignment on risk.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Compliance Functions:
    • Support local management in assuming and executing its responsibility to implement and maintain an effective Compliance program at the unit level as designated Local Compliance Officer (LCO) including:
    • Identify compliance risks and implement mitigating measures
    • Consult on compliance topics and provide relevant documentation.
    • Conduct compliance trainings and distribute communications.
    • Collaborate with North America LCOs.
    • Act as the interface between MBRDNA and the FCO.
    • Support for tCMS program elements, including:
    • Risk assessments, including implementation of mitigating measures and risk-based control procedures.
    • Training.
    • Communications.
    • Support and coordinate implementation of Data Protection and Data Compliance requirements, including:
    • Provide training on, and establish employee awareness of, product data protection topics.
    • Execute data protection risk assessments in coordination with company policy.
    • Consult on data analytics use cases, information obligations, data subjects requests/inquiry, deletion concepts, privacy by design/default, and other data protection topics.
    • Identify local data compliance implementation needs.
    • Additional responsibilities as required.
    • Legal Functions:
    • Provide legal advice related to state and federal legal and regulatory topics including but not limited to safety, emissions, vehicle compliance, data protection/privacy, and other product-related matters.
    • Work with engineering, product, and regulatory teams, as well as legal colleagues in key markets globally, to provide legal advice and support legal compliance on product topics.
    • Stay up to date on industry standards, laws, and regulations, including data protection laws and regulations
    • Support the development of strong relationships with key stakeholders.
    • Additional responsibilities as required.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Minimum level of education required and required field of study:  Admitted and in good standing to practice law in at least one US Jurisdiction and eligible  to practice under Rule 9.46 of the California Rules of Court.
    • 3 to 5 years in professional roles with focus on legal and regulatory compliance topics.
    • Knowledge and experience in internal audit, accounting, or similar area with focus on  anti-corruption, data protection, CSR, and other applicable laws and regulations.
    • Ability to establish business processes and align internal stakeholders in order to fulfill requirements.
    • Strong project management capability as well as communication, presentation, and PowerPoint skills.
    • Analytical thinking and results-oriented.
    • Intercultural knowledge and mindset.
    • Agile mindset and willingness to learn.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • CIPP/US.

    Additional Information:

    The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on a wide range of factors, including, but not limited to, job-related education, skills, and experience, geographic location, and market conditions. The current salary range for this position is as follows and may be modified in the future: $110,000 - $162,500
