    Position summary

    Embedded in a worldwide network Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America continuously strives to remain at the forefront of successful automotive research and development. MBRDNA is headquartered in Silicon Valley, California, with key areas of Autonomous Driving, Advanced Interaction Design, Digital User Experience, Machine Learning, Customer Research, and Open Innovation. In Farmington Hills, Michigan, the focus is on Powertrain and eDrive technology as well as in Long Beach, where the teams test durability of the latest driver assistant and telematic systems. The Digital Hub in Seattle focusses on developing a cloud architecture and building out the cloud platform for the next generation of connected car services. The Testing and Regulatory Affairs Division in Ann Arbor and the Advanced Vehicle Design in Carlsbad complete the competence center.

    The MBRDNA Autonomous Driving Team is looking for motivated and passionate engineers who help bringing our autonomous driving system to the market. We believe that autonomous vehicle will revolutionize future mobility and we want to actively shape that future. 

    In this position, as a system software engineer, the focus is on general software engineering, implementing and optimizing algorithms for autonomous driving, but domain knowledge in middleware and heterogeneous computing is an advantage. In this role, you will be on the front-line of an interdisciplinary team of engineers who make autonomous driving a reality.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Developing high-quality source code by applying best-practice software engineering methods, including code reviews, design guidelines, refactoring, unit and regression testing
    • Developing robust and memory efficient real-time code for embedded platforms into autonomous vehicles Benchmarking individual software modules as well as the entire system Static analysis of the software system
    • Designing and developing solutions to improve the software development flow
    • Collaborating with other teams in an international setting and transferring knowledge gained on advanced technology
    • Collaborating and negotiating with our international stakeholders
    • Mentoring and supervising interns and colleagues with less experience
    • Potentially writing patents and scientific papers and engaging with the scientific community
    • Some international travel might be required

    Minimum Requirements:

    • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Physics or related fields
    • Experience with advanced, efficient and real-time capable C++ control flow and data structures
    • Experience with embedded programming
    • Advanced programming skills in C/C++ and scripting language (e.g. Python) Advanced knowledge in general software engineering (code design, patterns, git, Linux, build systems)
    • Ability to write high-quality code which will run in a safety-critical environment
    • Solid mathematical understanding
    • Must possess a valid US driver's license

    Additional Information:

    The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on a wide range of factors, including, but not limited to, job-related education, skills, and experience, geographic location, and market conditions. The current salary range for this position is as follows and may be modified in the future: $135,000 - $168,800
