    Position summary

    About the Team

    The Credit Portfolio Management (“CPM”) team is responsible for managing enterprise credit risk across the Commercial and Investment Bank. The team sets firm Risk Appetite and executes portfolio stress-testing, concentration risk management, identification of emerging risks, and comprehensive industry / sector credit analyses. CPM provides proactive monitoring for obligors and sectors utilizing various market indicators to support Credit Risk Management decision making across Mizuho.

    Summary

    CPM is seeking an Assistant Vice President-level hire to support risk management of Mizuho’s credit portfolio, with a focus on credit risk modeling, and associated governance and reporting.

    Responsibilities

    • Review and challenge the appropriateness of various internal models in wholesale credit stress testing and CECL.  Engage with Risk analytics team on credit model development to enhance Portfolio Risk monitoring and improve Banking assessment of Risk appetite.

    • Support Risk Appetite matters including calibration of portfolio appetite limits linked to business strategy and entity capital / earnings and for compliance with various complex regulatory requirements.  Identify and document any deviation from firm Risk Appetite as appropriate.

    • Assist in the design, development and execution of key credit risk management portfolio reporting, ensuring visibility of trends / concentrations, limit monitoring, and key risks across portfolios and business lines while validating data accuracy. Collaborate with the Risk Reporting team to validate the accuracy of the various portfolio management reports.

    • Further develop and refine balance sheet and stress testing limits to appropriately balance risk and reward within the Risk Appetite framework. Coordinate with line of Business and Credit Officers to ensure Mizuho’s business with counterparties is structured to fit within Risk appetite.

    • Analyze and prepare reports on business and / or Bank-level credit risk management activities to identify themes or trends. Prepare risk management analysis and presentations to senior management, regulators, and internal and external auditors.                                                                                    

    • Assist in the oversight and completion of in-scope process documentation and testing of key controls to support Portfolio Credit Risk objectives.

    • Ensure that Credit Risk management practices reflect best practice, review and refine various credit risk initiatives and assist in adopting automation, streamlining processes, and identifying and implementing appropriate technology solutions.

    • Promote regulatory and compliance awareness and ensure adherence to risk-related policies and best practices.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree with major in Finance, Business Administration, Computer Science, Mathematics, Accounting, or Economics and 2-3+ years of progressive experience in a commercial lending environment as a Credit & Portfolio Risk Manager, Risk Group Analyst, or closely related position developing and implementing credit risk strategies for a global financial institution.

    • Candidate needs to have a solid understanding of credit risk modeling, as well as an understanding of commercial credit facilities, bank capital rules, and credit structures.

    • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of Microsoft office products including Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Must have strong Excel skills and previous experience using Python script, VBA, SQL, and/ or programming expertise preferred.

    • Experience in bank credit risk analytics, regulatory capital modeling, and stress testing. CECL / CCAR experience preferred. Sound knowledge and understanding of a variety of credit model development methodologies and industry best practices

    • Knowledge of a full range of lending products and associated credit risk analytics and risk frameworks

    • Strong analytical and quantitative skills demonstrating the ability to assimilate new information, understand complex topics, and arrive at sound analysis and judgment.

    • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and interpersonal skills.

    The expected base salary ranges from $100,000 - $140,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
