Join the Mizuho team as the Head of Metadata Management!

The Head of Metadata Management role will report to the Chief Data Officer and will lead the implementation of the metadata management standards across Mizuho Americas.

This role will be accountable for development of the metadata management strategy and execution to meet the policy requirements. Such strategy will develop the enterprise usage of metadata and support an active management for metadata. The candidate in this role will provide governance and oversight by working closely with business units and functions data stakeholders, including the Stewardship function through a federated model, and manage Metadata Management resources to provide the necessary support to fulfil the responsibilities listed for this role.

The role requires the candidate to act as influential thought leader bringing in external perspectives on the execution to drive adoption. As a change agent, the candidate will drive the development and adoption of standards through collaboration with business units and functions, and external vendors. The role will own, maintain and support enterprise-wide metadata capabilities (data catalogs, traceability and lineage tools), and Approve data definitions and lineage developed by individual data domains.

Responsibilities

Business and Technical Metadata Management

• Enforce business processes and standards for metadata management and compliance.
• Define and provide models for structuring business metadata (https://e.g., business processes, business definitions, security/access levels, data quality rules), and technical and operational metadata (https://e.g., technical/physical data elements, data models, data lineage).
• Approve changes to metadata and manage new demand for metadata.
• Promotes and develops active metadata management use cases.
• Define standards for metadata and ensure compliance.

Metadata Tools

• Develop, implement and manage enterprise-wide metadata capabilities (data glossaries/dictionaries, traceability and lineage tools).
• Support selection and implementation of tools for metadata management.
• Aggregate and link domain metadata (dictionaries, lineage,…) into enterprise metadata.

Minimum qualification and skills

Experience

• 10+ years of experience in IT, with industry knowledge
• 5+ years of experience in data management or metadata management

Skills

• Strong leadership experience in an enterprise or cross-functional role.
• Strong interpersonal and communication / persuasion skills.
• Strong project management leadership and proven ability to coordinate cross functional teams of business, IT and other key stakeholders.
• Very strong familiarity with metadata issues and processes.
• Experience in system data mapping and tracing.
• Experience defining, implementing, and managing data catalogs, flows/lineage.
• Experience with knowledge graph technology and applications.

The expected base salary ranges from $190k-$250k. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications and licenses obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
