What you can expect:
The Scheme Design Consultant is a client-facing, project-based role, responsible for delivering our Scheme Design services to Mercer Marsh Benefits (MMB) clients, helping them effect major change for their benefits programmes.
Our services cover the entire spectrum of employee benefits and our role is to provide expert insight and recommendations on all aspects of benefits programme design. The primary responsibility of the role is to deliver strategic and management consulting projects, against the client's requirements and objectives. This involves converting inputs, such as benchmarking, workforce profiling and opinion and financial modelling into options and recommendations to aid the decision-making process.
In addition to working on billable client projects, the role also requires support to be provided to other areas of the MMB and the wider Mercer businesses, with a particular focus on client strategy, sales and team support to help generate new bookings and revenue, whether in the area of Scheme Design or wider MMB service provision.
We will count on you to:
Client Scheme Design Projects:
Typically delivering and supporting a several projects at any given time, work and activities include:
- Supporting pitches and client pre-sales meetings
- Producing sales proposals and service schedules
- Project kick-off workshops and project planning
- Helping clients define project scope, challenges and objectives
- Collate and conduct research via methods as stakeholder interviews, surveys and focus groups
- Undertake workforce profiling, benchmarking and trend analysis
- Undertake financial modelling and impact analysis on various potential design options
- Compile, analyse and synthesise findings to make formal recommendation to clients
- Deliver presentations to clients and their stakeholder groups for buy-in and decision-making
- Aid and document client decisions, handover to project teams and successfully close projects
Sales and Client Opportunity Support**:**
- Supporting the Client Team ensuring close relationships with the account management team, the Consultant will be responsible for identifying leads and supporting client conversations. The Consultant plays an active role in closing those opportunities, delivering addition value and revenue to MMB. The Consultant will then also be responsible for delivering and overseeing the delivery of those new scheme design products and services, working with other teams in the business to ensure that the technology and communications are updated to align to the changes in products and services.
- Supporting the Sales Team ensuring that they have close links to the MMB sales team, the Consultant will provide support to winning new prospects that require consulting services as part of their relationship with MMB. This will include response to tenders, attending pitches, helping with the delivery of proposals and ensuring that pricing reflects the work to be undertaken. When those new clients are won by MMB, the Consultant that supported the sales process will then take that client into their portfolio to provide a consistent client experience.
- Supporting the Marketing Team The Consulting will spend a portion of their time providing content for the marketing team, to help promote the MMB brand and market perception as thought leaders. This will require the Consultant to produce items, including white papers and technical updates.
Internal Support:
- Supporting innovation the Consultant will provide support for several projects throughout the year, as agreed with the Consulting Director and Scheme Design Team Manager, to help move the consulting and Scheme Design Proposition forward and ahead of the competition. The required time, resource and support will be provided by the business to empower the Consultant to deliver this part of their role and change the workplace landscape as we collectively agree.
- Developing methodology the Consultant will help develop the Scheme Design Team consulting and project methodology, by taking time, within their role, to review and collate feedback on our approach and learn from improvements in consulting technique from outside the business and even industry. These ideas will be used to help move forward our approach, templates and recommendations.
Personal Development:
- Ensure compliance and competency the Consultant will work with the Head of Scheme Design to create a personal development and competency plan that they will use to maintain and monitor their own competency, compliance and development throughout the year.
Security:
- To comply with the Information Security Policy and to preserve the availability, confidentiality and integrity of the information assets of MMB. To be security aware and to report any Information Security Incidents promptly.
- To display personal leadership and example in information security, ensure the Organisation's policies and procedures are followed and all team members are fully briefed.
Regulatory:
- Maintain and comply with the rules, guidance and regulations as set out by MMB Compliance function to ensure compliance with the FCA rules and guidance.

What you need to have:
- Strong previous experience in a Consultant role
- Strong knowledge of the UK benefits market, including core and voluntary options
- Excellent report writing experience and comfortable making relevant recommendations
- Relevant client facing experience and being comfortable to speak, present and discuss all employee benefits related subjects
- Previous project management experience is desirable but not essential
- Can do attitude and able to work both independently and in a group
