SVP Data Governance - Marsh Data Services
Location: New York, New York
The SVP Data Governance position reports into the Chief Data Officer (CDO) and is part of Marsh's Operations and Technology (O&T) team. This is a new position for Marsh and is global in nature. The successful candidate will work closely with the CDO and other stakeholders to define the scope of the position as one of their initial responsibilities. These stakeholders include other members of the O&T team, senior executives within Marsh's various lines of business, and senior executives within the Marsh technology teams.
This is a senior leadership position that requires exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) alongside deep data knowledge and experience to create and implement a suite of data governance programs within a complex and demanding environment. The scope includes all data domains, data types, data structures, regions, classifications, systems and users.
This position involves extensive collaboration with broad range of partners and stakeholders in creating a strategic vision of data management within the organization. This includes leading and participating in requirements gathering sessions, design workshops, systems evaluations, project management sessions and general oversight meetings.
Although not a primary responsibility, the position is expected to involve working with people in the Transformation and PMO Offices to create project plans, including goal setting, budget setting, financial reporting, cross dependencies, resource planning, and risk identification/mitigation.
We will count on you to:
- Create and maintain an inventory of all Marsh's data assets with associated meta-data around descriptive attributes such as: sourcing, system processing information, ownership, and controls (e.g. compliance, regulatory and commercial).
- Create and maintain a glossary of key business terms associated with master data feeds, databases, systems and applications.
- Support various Technology and Data Design teams in the creation and maintenance of data taxonomies and conceptual data models for key referential and transaction master data systems.
- Create a global framework of data management policies, standards and practices basis industry best practices. This framework will be comprehensive in scope: from ingestion and transformation, to modelling and storage, and finally to analytics and end user consumption.
- Establish a broad, inclusive governance structure for Marsh's entire suite of master databases and facilitates alignment across all stakeholders.
- Work collaboratively with various Technology and Data Management teams to create and maintain a suite of data quality rules, KPI and SLAs for all in-scope systems.
- Work collaboratively across the Marsh McLennan divisions for opportunities around tool selection, best practices and efficiencies.
What you need to have:
- A deep and abiding appreciation for all things dataits role, impact, challenges, and potential with an organization
- Experience within a similar role, ideally within the Insurance or Financial Services Industries
- Deep understanding of Data Management and Data Governance concepts, processes, technologies, and issues
- Experience structuring and managing behavior change across complex, global organizations
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills leveraging both traditional (e.g. Office; Teams) tools as well as software lifecycle tools (e.g. Jira)
- Ability and willingness to collaborate at all levels of an global organization to ensure the successful implementation of change
- An inquisitive mind that is not afraid to question current ways of thinking
- Ability to generate, sell and execute creative solutions to complex business problems

- Understanding of the insurance marketplayers, processes, technologies, and content
- Hands on experience with the Informatica suite of Data Management and Governance tools
- Understanding of business process design and systems change management
- An interest in emerging technologies and knowledge of the InsurTech/FinTech landscape
- Familiarity with data modeling and design methods
- Familiarity with various analytical and business intelligence methods and tools
- Working knowledge of Agile and other SDLC methodologies, including producing user stories and participating in sprints and daily scrums; familiarity with Six Sigma and Lean principles
