=== WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR ===
Nike is looking for an attorney who can support and lead global legal privacy and security strategies for Nike Inc. and its affiliates from our WHQ office in Beaverton, Oregon US!
The person in this role would join a team of privacy professionals around the globe to act as a subject matter authority and leader for cross-functional initiatives.
The best candidates for this role are folks who communicate effectively about privacy at all levels, prioritize and work through ambiguity to drive results, and are strong teammates with the ability to work cross-functionally in a complex organizational structure.
=== WHAT WILL YOU WORK ON ===
STRATEGY:
Help implement Nike’s global legal privacy strategy, with executive direction as necessary.
Help set and drive consistent privacy policy and practices across Nike.
Formulate and disseminate enterprise-wide policies for US and Global operations, in partnership and consultation with country/geo counsel responsible for data protection.
Help ensure the company has fully documented policies and practices in place, consistent with local laws.
Identify issues of the highest risk facing the company; propose and drive solutions to address those risks.
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL LEADERSHIP AND ENGAGEMENT:
Provide leadership and engagement with cross-functional teammates including, but not limited to, HR, information technology, product, engineering, information security, government affairs, communications, and audit.
EMBED OUR APPROACH:
Effectively champion a principles-based privacy approach throughout the company.
Drive programs and processes and decisions in support of strategy and principles.
Surface and resolve issues that have the potential for brand impact for business and legal consideration.
Conduct privacy impact assessments for large IT and enterprise services, programs and systems.
Continually test and improve privacy processes and governance.
EXPERTISE:
Provide subject matter expertise regarding privacy and security provisions within commercial deals.
Provide subject matter expertise regarding privacy as applied to technology, artificial intelligence, employees and the workplace, or fitness research.
Maintain grounding in global laws and government activity related to privacy.
Maintain knowledge of external business and legal landscape in privacy and proactively propose advisable business processes or practices.
Maintain knowledge of the relevant information technology systems and applications to drive systematic solutions and improvements.
Partner with government affairs on government policy/regulation affecting the company.
EDUCATION AND AWARENESS:
Build content and guide delivery of company-wide and roles-based education and awareness of privacy issues and their impact to our brand and business.
EXTERNAL LIAISON:
Collaborate closely with privacy professionals at peer companies and industries.
MONITORING:
Develop and augment internal efforts to build integrated privacy governance by monitoring the relevant legal, regulatory and policy developments, and collaborating with external partners.
=== WHO WILL YOU WORK WITH ===
This role reports to the Senior Global Privacy Counsel and is a member of the privacy team within the legal team. Lawyers on the privacy team work closely with our privacy program and privacy analyst teammates. This role will also counsel and collaborate closely with our product, engineering, and architecture teams passionate about privacy and a variety of cross-functional leadership.
=== WHAT YOU WILL BRING ===
Juris Doctorate degree
Minimum of 6 years privacy experience, law firm and multinational corporation experience preferred.
In-depth knowledge of global privacy and information security laws; ability to act as a “subject matter expert” in privacy
Experience with cross-border data transfers and methods of ensuring compliance with data protection laws.
Experience with privacy and security provisions in commercial agreements.
Experience counseling on digital products, marketing and advertising technology, technology infrastructure, or other applications of privacy to tech configurations. Alternatively, the ability to assess downstream impacts of tech configurations on privacy compliance postures and propose concrete solutions for compliant configurations.
Sound risk assessment capabilities in constantly evolving regulated areas
Strong teammate and ability to work cross-functionally in a complex organizational structure
Ability to prioritize and work through ambiguity, focus on business requirements, and drive results
Ability to successfully draft and implement privacy policies and processes
Ability to communicate privacy effectively at all levels
Ability to work independently within a multinational organization and be pragmatic and results focused
IAPP Certification Preferred
