Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems sector is currently hiring a dual role Aerodynamics & Vehicle Performance Team Lead and Section Manager 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This leadership role is located in Melbourne, FL.

The Manager will lead a group of approximately 12 engineers who are responsible for meeting aircraft Aerodynamics, Performance and CFD design and analysis needs of a program in the Strike division. Approximately 80% of the statement of work will be as Team Lead and 20% as Section Manager of the Melbourne team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and direction to Aerodynamics, Vehicle Performance, and CFD engineers on a program as Team Lead and Section Manager (Functional Manager).
  • Lead execution of program wind tunnel testing, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis, aerodynamic database development.
  • Coordinate verification and validation of air vehicle aerodynamic design modifications using CFD and provide manufacturing defect disposition.
  • Support flight test planning activities and providing engineering resources for flight test aerodynamic and performance model verification and validation.
  • Lead development of pilot flight manual and flight planning performance data and support development of flight planning tools.
  • Perform Strike Aerodynamics and Performance team Earned Value Management.
  • Product integrity, process adherence, staffing, training, and tools.
  • Process oversight, participation in the performance review process, management of personnel records and participation in corrective or disciplinary actions.
  • Staffing responsibilities may include hiring, recruiting of personnel and working to ensure that engineers with the appropriate skills and experience are deployed.
  • The ability to manage training opportunities and budget allocations, as well as participation in tool, process, and metric initiatives is required.
  • Team engagement is a key focus.
  • The ability to mentor, provide career guidance and coaching, and to lead others is required.
  • This position may require travel.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 7 years of professional/military experience related to aerospace engineering, OR a Master's degree AND 5 years of professional/military experience related to aerospace engineering.
  • Must have an active DoD Secret clearance (or higher) that is in-scope (granted or renewed within the last 6 years or under continuous evaluation).
  • Must be able to attain and maintain Special Access Program clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current/Active Special Program Access.
  • Engineering team leadership skills and experience.
  • Experience in technical leadership and guidance to Flight Sciences discipline areas.
  • Graduate level academic concentration in aerodynamics, performance, stability and control and/or air breathing propulsion.
  • Broad knowledge of wind tunnel data analysis and transformation techniques.
  • Experience in wind tunnel test support role resulting in timely data reduction and database generation.
  • Understanding of air vehicle force and moment accounting systems.
  • MATLAB experience.
  • Experience in Flight Sciences processes and products throughout the program life cycle.
  • Flight test support experience and aerodynamic database updates.
  • Experience in the development of pilot flight manual or flight planning performance data and associated tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead an engineering or cross-functional team.
  • Experience with Earned Value Management.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-3013, MIL-STD-1797 and MIL-HDBK-516.
  • DoD or FAA aircraft certification experience.

Salary Range: $123,900 USD - $185,900 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
