Northrop Grumman Space Systems has an opening for a Systems Integration and Test Engineering Manager 2 with a specialty in mechanical/ dynamic tests to join our team of highly qualified and diverse individuals. This position will be permanently located in Huntsville, AL with some travel to El Segundo, California and Roy, Utah. Learn more about the GBSD program here . Northrop Grumman supports the Air Force's sustainment, development, production and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities and associated infrastructure.

What you will get to do:
PBACM Dynamic Test Engineer Manager 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals to lead the development, integration and testing of a missile system. To help stand-up and lead our new HV Dynamics Test Lab and to lead the qualification and acceptance testing of the PBACM element during its dynamic testing.
Essential Functions:

  • Lead a small team of I&T engineers to dynamically and electrically functional test a S/C element.
  • Provide technical and personnel oversight of the team by working alongside management to guide, grow and mentor the team
  • Run and maintain the Huntsville Dynamics Test Lab in execution of dynamic testing of flight test and production units. Be responsible for all the dynamic test equipment and related equipment for the lab. Support the operation of the DDAS (and equivalent) and data collection in the control room.
  • Support electrical test engineering with the electrical functional test checkouts on the manufacturing line.
  • Help develop and execute the integrated test strategy of the program. It is particularly critical that this individual be an excellent communicator and effective leader. • Collaborate with other IPTs to define test objectives and requirements for test activities in the Dynamic Test lab.
  • Support the development and execution of test requirements and detailed integration test plans, test information sheets (TIS), test procedures, test readiness reviews (TRRs), test data and test reports. Execute qualification and acceptance testing per those requirements, plans and procedures in the lab.
  • Interact with the customer and program leadership to define and maintain the technical baseline.
  • Able to effectively communicate and present to project and program management, other technical managers, technical peers and customers
  • Be the responsible test engineer on the floor for assigned tests working with operation crews during the implementation of various tests while verifying and validating test requirements.
  • Generate and support test data decomposition and test reports to other IPTs.
  • Generate and maintain detailed test schedules to the program IMS. Provide weekly EV status to the I&T CAMs.
  • Perform the duties of a section manager by writing and providing personnel performance assessments, CATS time charging approvals, year-end ratings and rankings assessments, company engagement tasks, and other related functional management duties as required.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM with 6 years of applicable engineering experience.
  • Active DoD Secret security clearance
  • 1 year of experience with dynamic testing of integrated complex mission systems within spacecraft, ground systems, and/or aircraft along with their subsystem elements.
  • 1 year of experience with system test integration and test principles and processes.
  • 1 year of experience with the installation and use of instrumentation and DDAS type systems with regard to dynamic testing.
  • 1 year of experience performing FEA/FEM a dynamic analysis

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MS in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) with emphases on vibration and shock
  • Excellent technical writing skills with experience in writing test plans, dynamic test procedures, and test reports.
  • Experience with data collection/instrumentation methods and post-processing of data.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of technical principles, theories, and concepts within the field of vibration and shock engineering and testing.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience
  • Previous section manager (SM) experience with a demonstrated ability to mentor and guide a test engineering and tech support team.
  • Advanced knowledge of unit, sub-system & system-level dynamic test engineering concepts and demonstrated ability to run lab operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts within the field of vibration and shock engineering and testing.
  • Mechanical engineering design and analysis knowledge in the application of dynamic test hardware design.
  • Direct experience using NX and/or CATIA V5, FEMAP, MathCAD, MATLAB, DOORS, CAMEO, and CPLM
  • Experience with environmental test cost estimating, EVMS, and working proposals
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot anomalous test hardware and test software
  • Experience using common test and measurement equipment

Salary Range: $118,600 USD - $178,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
