Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a Sr Principal Systems Engineer . This position will be located in Huntsville, AL and will support the Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package. This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on qualifications listed below.

What you'll get to do:
Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications. Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

  • Perform functional analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition

  • Translate customer requirements into hardware, software, firmware, and integration and test specifications.

  • Interface with multiple disciplines, including customers, internal executive management, program management, hardware, software, system engineering, procurement, suppliers, and manufacturing.

  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Operate in a team environment and collaborate across product teams

  • Derive, Allocate, Update and Maintain requirements and specifications

  • Develop Weapon System Architecture Model and Requirements Verification Architecture Model.

  • Develop and manage interfaces.

  • Perform requirements analysis, develop source data for requirements

  • Support all phases of the systems lifecycle including concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal

  • Maintain design documentation and follow configuration management requirements

  • Requirements Management that includes Model Base Systems Engineering (MBSE), Requirement Decomposition, Functional Block Diagrams and Specification Trees

  • Systems Design, Systems Integration, Analysis and Trade Studies

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80A. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.

You'll bring these qualifications:

  • BS - Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) with a minimum 9 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; 7 years with a Master's; 4 Years with PhD.
  • U.S. Citizenship and an Active Secret Security Clearance or higher awarded or reviewed in the last 6 years
  • Understanding of systems engineering principles and processes
  • Experience working in an Agile team
  • Demonstrated communication skills (written and oral)
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Working experience in Model Base Systems Engineering (MBSE) e.g. Cameo
  • Experience in MBSE techniques, including requirements management; interface control and verification; logical, physical and functional architecture; trade studies; and analysis of alternatives
  • Understanding of SysML, UML, or similar
  • Understanding of the following specialty areas: nuclear surety, cybersecurity, flight safety
  • Mature requirements definition experience including definition of verification plans

These qualifications would be nice to have:

  • High proficiency in technical problem solving; to include decomposition, root cause analysis, solution development, implementation, and monitoring

  • Multi-disciplined knowledge in areas related to engineering including systems design, hardware, software and firmware design, integration, and test

  • Experience with software containers

  • Experience with micro-services architecture

  • Experience with Real-time Operating Systems

Salary Range: $114,300 USD - $171,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
