    Northrop Grumman Aeronautics System Sector is seeking a Manager Aeronautical Engineering 2 to join our team of qualified, diverse, individuals in the Aerospace Structures Business Unit (ASBU). This position will be located primarily in Clearfield, Utah, with expected travel up to 25%.

    Position Description:
    Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Manager Aeronautical Engineering 2 to lead our growing Thermal/Fluids team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Clearfield, UT. As a Manager of the Thermal/Fluids team you will work closely with the Analysis Engineering management and will lead a team of approximately 6-10 experienced aeronautical engineers, supporting sophisticated analysis of composite aerospace structures and processes. We engineer the latest composite structures for military/commercial aircraft and launch structures and are leaders in next-generation structure development.     Essential Responsibilities:

    • Primary focus of position is Managing the Thermal Analysis/Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) team. The Thermal/Fluids team responsibilities include:
      • Performing analysis on aerospace vehicle external protection material systems for multiple environments
      • Aerodynamic heating analysis for flight applications
      • Aerodynamic heating analysis for test configuration applications
      • Performing simulations of thermal standardization efforts for composite manufactured parts and conducting flow tests to support equipment such as autoclaves and ovens
      • Characterization of material thermal properties: Test planning, test support, and data reduction
      • Supporting Research & Development, Testing, and Manufacturing groups during the development process
      • Performing thermal surveys of part equipment/tooling, developing fluid flow models, thermal analysis support for preliminary and critical design phases, and preparing presentations
      • Survey support includes working with thermal and fluid specific instrumentation such as thermocouples, hot wire anemometers, etc.
      • Performing data reduction and interpretation of measurements
    • Position will include department functional management activities as well as providing technical guidance and oversite to the team.
    • Manager will work with Analysis Engineering management to support: current programs, staff planning and forecasts, cost account management, business development team with new pursuits, and work with research and development organization on future technologies

We are part of the analysis engineering organization, and work closely with the composites technology development organization, research & development engineers, engineering technicians, structure design and analysis engineers, and process engineers to provide state-of-the-art solutions to the most engaging problems. We are currently supporting both unclassified and classified programs.

    We work a 9/80 work week, which gives us every other Friday off to pursue passions outside the office. Travel is up to 25%, all within the continental US and typically involves a 2-3 day trip a few times per year. Northrop Grumman offers a full suite of benefits to our employees.     Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 9 years of experience in heat transfer and fluid mechanics; OR a Master's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 7 years of experience in heat transfer and fluid mechanics
    • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance and Special Program Access (PAR) within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company to meet its business needs, but not required to start
    • Demonstrated industry experience with heat transfer analysis
    • Demonstrated industry experience with fluid flow analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software
    • Experience leading a technical team and working with program management

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance last investigated within 5 ½ years
    • Experience leading a team through design/analysis iteration cycles in support of program needs
    • Experience working with and leading those using any of the following software packages: ANSYS Fluent, Thermal Desktop, STAR-CCM+, Siemens NX, MATLAB, Abaqus CAE, Python scripting
    • Composite thermal/structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience
    • Basic or intermediate skills using CAD software packages
    • Experience supporting engineering testing and characterization of material mechanical and/or thermal properties: Test planning, test support, and data reduction
    • Knowledge of composite materials

    Salary Range: $127,700 USD - $191,500 USD

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
