Responsibilities

• Leads teams of Artificial Intelligence (AI) engineers to define, develop, and deliver novel mathematical and statistical modeling, Machine Learning (ML) algorithms, and/or systems to tackle the challenges of prediction, optimization, and classification.
• Applies novel ML algorithms to solve problems that would be intractable with conventional rules-based or procedural approaches.
• Ensures the development of AI-enabled systems that meet stakeholders' mission needs and performance requirements.
• Works in problem spaces including large sets of structured and unstructured data using applications in pattern recognition, target detection and tracking, machine learning, deep learning, and decision systems, object classification, computer vision, natural language processing and/or autonomous systems.
• Develops or informs integration and test procedures; verification and validation approaches; and system operations, sustainment, and maintenance plans and procedures.
• Applies internal and external AI research results to designing systems and software.
• Identifies common failure modes for AI/ML algorithms and systems and designs fail safes to ameliorate them.
• Follows best practices throughout the Engineering Life Cycle and ensures relevant standards are met.

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in relevant STEM discipline, along with a minimum of with 9 years of relevant experience (7 years with an MS; 4 with a PhD) in an engineering and/or leadership role.
• Demonstrated success leading, collaborating, and building teams on complex technical projects.
• Ability to explain complex mathematical, algorithmic, and machine learning topics to customers and laypersons.
• Familiarity with a wide variety of modern AI/ML algorithms and research.
• Demonstrated experience utilized programming languages including, but not limited to: Python, C++, or MATLAB.
• Ability to obtain and maintain US Security Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated success in a functional management, project management, or similar role responsible for leading teams utilizing emerging technologies and approaches.
• Prior experience leveraging knowledge of AI/ML approaches to evaluate potential solutions to a given problem, direct research and trade studies, evaluate results, and develop requirements.
• Active US Security Clearance.

Salary Range: $137,000 USD - $205,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
