    Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSP) seeks to fill a Level 1 Engineering Manager position in the Payload and Ground Systems Division Engineering organization supporting Integrated National Systems (INS) Business Unit (BU).

    This is a dual role encompassing both people leadership and technical performance (20/80 respectively).

    The INS BU Engineering Organization requires an Engineering Manager 1 experienced in Systems Engineering to lead a team that may consist of software, systems, network engineers and system administrators. In addition, the individual will ensure quality engineering support to programs, IRADs, CRADs, and new business pursuits. This position will be located in Morrisville, NC

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
    Employee inclusion, communication, employee engagement, performance management, career development, employee rewards and recognition, and resolving personnel issues. Recruiting, sourcing, onboarding of new employees, college and intern recruiting, development and advancement of engineering practices, identification of skill gaps, and increasing engineering competencies through strategic hiring and employee skills development. The position requires functional management of approximately 8-15 engineers.

    The Engineering Manager 1 will clearly demonstrate strong leadership skills to achieve sustainable top performance. They will have a track record as an effective communicator and problem-solver who is able to develop and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Furthermore, they will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, as well as the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. Proven abilities to build diverse, inclusive teams with high levels of engagement, including mentoring and coaching, are a must. This person will demonstrate a broad skillset that is balanced among interpersonal, business, and technical capabilities. They will have an ability to operate in a team environment and to collaborate across the division business areas, as required, to accomplish the team goals. This individual will work closely with the engineering managers and program managers and will also be able to champion change within the organization in order to achieve competitive advantages for the business.

    Overview:
    Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelors Degree + 5 years of experience; Masters Degree + 3 years of experience; or a PhD in a related field.
    • Active TS/SCI or TS with SCI eligibility, and the willingness to sit for a poly security clearance
    • Experience and understanding of AGILE/SCRUM methodology
    • Experience with JIRA, S2P and Confluence

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Active TS/SCI with poly
    • SCRUM Master
    • Preferred management experience with the understanding and support of Northrop Grumman policies, as well as knowledge of the Space or Ground Systems mission, development, or business area
    • Business development activities
    • Program management, functional management, and customer management skills
    • Broad area of experience working in software or systems development environments or mission area
    • Time management skills and a proven record to deliver on actions
    • People-focused with strong written and oral communication skills

    Salary Range: $112,000 USD - $168,000 USD

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
