Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) is seeking highly qualified, mission oriented Survivability Systems Engineering Managers for the Survivability Systems Engineering Department. If you like pushing the boundaries of technology and pushing yourself, this job is for you!
As a leader in the Advanced Aircraft Design Center, you will be responsible for leading a team developing cutting edge Survivability technology. Our work influences the design of the next generation of aircraft and is a driving force behind the investment decisions of our senior leadership and customer program offices. We work closely with our external customers and internal collaborators to further the technologies at the heart of Aircraft Survivability. System Survivability frequently collaborates across functional disciplines, offering highly unique opportunities to obtain a broad understanding of many technical areas, or to more narrowly focus on developing a deep expertise in any one of the relevant fields. In this role, the breadth and depth of your growth and development are limited only by your willingness to learn and challenge yourself.
The positions will be located in Redondo Beach and El Segundo, California. Multiple positions are available. The successful candidates will fill one of the following roles.

  • Section manager for a team of Survivability Design Integration engineers, responsible for supporting RCS design and analysis for multiple programs, both development and programs of record. Success in this role requires managing a team supporting multiple IRAD, CRAD, and program efforts and enabling the success of this team.
  • Section manager for a team of IR, Vis, Ac Survivability engineers, responsible for IR, Vis, and Aeroacoustic analysis and design for multiple programs, both development and programs of record. Success in this role requires balancing a diverse team supporting a portfolio of IRAD, CRAD, and program efforts and enabling the success of this diverse team.

The Survivability Section Manager is a dual-hat Engineering Manager responsible for both section management (up to 20% of time) and existing program/projects or other responsibilities (80% or more of time). The Section Manager is also a member of the Systems Survivability functional organization with responsibilities to perform resource planning and staffing; employee development, including skills training and career exploration; performance management, including employee goal setting, performance appraisals and issue resolution. The Section Manager is also responsible for the deployment, measurement, and improvement of applicable engineering processes.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Lead a section of survivability engineers (12-20 personnel)
  • Be responsible for hiring, development, training, and retention of section talent. Hiring will include university and experienced hiring.
  • Provide leadership and direction to team members and manage employee performance
  • Responsible for day-to-day operation of the organization including employee movement and balancing of resources among programs, and resolving critical/urgent program/technical issues.
  • Responsible for collaboration and communication between Survivability Engineering and the program management.
  • Promote the professional development of the Survivability Engineering team and foster a collaborative culture that sustains the momentum around employee engagement and inclusion, affordability, innovation, value growth and continuous improvement.
  • Provide clear assignments, helps employees connect their efforts to the bigger picture, creates an inclusive work environment characterized by mutual respect and the valuing of differences, and builds a culture that motivates employees to their highest levels of performance.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 9+ years of engineering experience or 7 years and Masters degree
  • Previous experience in Survivability; including IR, Vis, and Acoustic Survivability and/or RCS design and analysis
  • Active DoD SECRET (or higher) clearance, within 5 years of last investigation
  • The ability to get and maintain a special access program clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS degree in aerospace, mechanical, electrical, materials science or chemical engineering; physics; chemistry; computer science; applied mathematics from an ABET accredited university
  • 5+ years of direct experience leading teams and managing projects
  • Experience leading a team of diverse individuals toward a common objective
  • Previous experience leading projects in the SAP/SAR environment; strong project management and team development skills
  • Existing program access current program areas
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, mentoring, and interpersonal skills
  • Active DoD TOP SECRET clearance, within 5 years of last investigation

Salary Range: $143,500 USD - $215,300 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
