The Payload and Ground Systems organization within the Northrop Grumman Space Systems pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefines engineering capabilities, and drives advances in various sciences. Northrop Grumman Space Systems (NGSP) seeks to fill a Space Senior Principal Systems Engineer in the Payload and Ground Systems Division Engineering organization supporting Integrated National Systems (INS) Business Unit (BU). This position will be located in Fairfax, VA or Aurora, CO.

This individual will clearly demonstrate leadership skills that achieve sustainable, top performance. They will have effective communication and problem-solving skills and is able to develop and maintain strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. In addition, they will demonstrate a commitment to ethics and integrity, and will have the capability to innovate while challenging traditional ways of doing business. This candidate will demonstrate broad abilities that are balanced between interpersonal, business, and technical capabilities. There will be opportunity to operate in a team environment and to collaborate across division business areas, as required, in order to accomplish team goals.

Role Description:
The Operations Engineering, Demonstrations and Training Lead (ODT) Senior Principal Systems Engineer is the technical lead and product owner, responsible for programmatic execution of the Operations Engineering, Demonstrations and Training Product Area. The ODT lead oversees and manages the core real-time operations crews, demonstrations, presentation and training for all operators and crews. The ODT lead also oversees the ODT execution of operational product maintenance, updates, testing and validation of the mission operational systems. The ODT is also responsible for managing development of new operational capabilities and products for a dynamic and diverse set of systems.

In this role, your responsibilities and duties include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee and lead the real-time operations and core crew personnel to include: operational standards, maximizing mission availability, shift scheduling, OJT, and certification advancement
  • Obtain and maintain an advanced operations certification and support crew back-fill as required
  • Oversee the technical preparation, maintenance, and review of standard operations procedures, operational scripts and associated operational aides
  • Project manager for developing increased and enhanced operations capabilities and resiliency to include: system automation, operational aides, new baseline checkouts, next generation preparation, and streamlined fault recovery
  • Implement and reinforce real-time operational standards, best practices, processes, and policies
  • Utilize Agile processes and tools that include Jira and Confluence to manage departmental projects and tasking
  • Collaborate with the program Enterprise team and cross-site operations team to realize commonality efficiencies and distributed global operations resources

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's + 9 years of exp; Master's + 7 years of exp; PhD + 4 years of exp
  • Active TS/SCI or TS with SCI eligibility, and willingness to sit for a poly security clearance
  • Experience with JIRA
  • Experience in gathering requirements and leading exercises or demonstrations
  • Willing to support shift work, including occasional weekends
  • Perform short and long-term telemetry modeling
  • Maintain existing operations procedures to also include lessons learned from real-time performance
  • Develop new procedures as required
  • Interface with program and customer personnel
  • Hands on experience developing and performing real-time executable mission plans
  • Familiarity with Mission Operations Centers architectures and interfaces.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills
  • Applicable knowledge of Agile/Scrum methodology

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active TS/SCI with poly
  • Experience in working with multiple subcontractors
  • Execution lead of exercises and demonstrations
  • Proficiency with STK software (Systems Tool Kit, formerly called Satellite Tool Kit)
  • Detailed familiarity with space system operational documentation
  • Familiarity with Planning and Scheduling software
  • Mentor newer members of the operations team
  • Breadth of engineering experience on large and small programs and Business development activities

Salary Range: $120,000 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
