The Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) Advanced Processing Solutions Business pushes the boundaries of innovation, redefines the leading edge of exotic new technologies, and drives advances in the sciences. One of our most challenging new fields is Transformational Computing, which combines the unique properties of superconductivity and quantum mechanics to develop radical new energy-efficient computing systems. Our team is chartered with providing the skills to transform computing beyond Moore's Law, advancing development of computer architectures, processing/memory subsystems, and large scale high performance computing systems. You'll work in a fast-paced team environment alongside a broad array of scientists and engineers to make these processing solutions a reality and deliver remarkable new advantages to the warfighter.

As part of a Research & Development effort in a Laboratory setting, a Systems Engineer joining this team need to work well in an environment supporting areas of advanced processing for semiconductors and related microelectronic devices where component/product specifications may not yet exist. They will be part of a Systems Engineering team responsible for understanding detailed models and simulations of microelectronic integrated circuits (IC) and systems to successfully translate customer requirements into corresponding hardware and software specifications. They will work closely with cross-functional development teams to ensure the designs and prototypes are in line with the developed specifications and will also support performance analysis and ensure that any design adjustments remain aligned to the component requirements and specification. From design to development, validation, and manufacturing, this position will significantly contribute to the viability and production of microelectronic integrated circuits meant for groundbreaking new innovations and warfighter advantages.

System engineers are involved in supporting all aspects of semiconductor / integrated circuit design and development and systems which utilize these components, which can include:

  • Developing system and subsystem requirements from user mission needs, and tracking requirements throughout the development process
  • Understanding and utilizing detailed models and simulations of systems for design verification or to enable hardware and software development
  • Working closely with developers to create operational modes which satisfy requirements and maximize system performance
  • Analyzing data from laboratory as it applies to and influences design solutions
  • Formally verifying that solutions meet requirements

This position will serve on-site in Linthicum, MD at our Advanced Technologies Laboratory.

This position can be filled at the Principal or Sr. Principal Level. Qualifications for both are listed below:

Basic Qualifications for Principal Digital Systems Engineer:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) such as Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering or a similar technical discipline with 5 years of related experience, or 3 years with a Master's Degree, or 0 years with a PhD.
  • Understanding detailed models and simulations of microelectronic circuits or systems for design verification
  • Professional hands-on experience in systems engineering tools including requirements management tools such as Jama or DOORS, modeling tools such as Enterprise Architect or IBM Rational, and analysis software such as MATLAB and Python
  • System requirements development
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain US Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications for Principal Digital Systems Engineer:

  • Master's Degree Systems Engineering
  • Software or Hardware design experience directly related to semiconductors and/or integrated circuits
  • Experience with analysis, design, fabrication, or test of superconducting electronics or semiconductor processing equipment
  • Digital or analog design validation and test experience
  • Experience utilizing or implementing Lean Electronics or Agile development practices

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Digital Systems Engineer:

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) such as Electrical or Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering or a similar technical discipline with 9 years of related experience, or 7 years with a Master's Degree, or 4 years with a PhD
  • Understanding detailed models and simulations of microelectronic circuits or systems for design verification
  • Professional hands-on experience in systems engineering tools including requirements management tools such as Jama or DOORS, modeling tools such as Enterprise Architect or IBM Rational, and analysis software such as MATLAB and Python
  • System requirements development
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain US Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications for Sr. Principal Digital Systems Engineer:

  • Master's Degree Systems Engineering
  • Software or Hardware design experience directly related to semiconductors and/or integrated circuits

Salary Range: $96,900 USD - $145,300 USD
Salary Range 2: $120,000 USD - $180,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
