    Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal Airworthiness Engineer / Sr. Principal Airworthiness Engineer to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. This position is in Redondo Beach, CA. This position may be filled at a higher grade based on the qualifications below.

    Responsibilities:
    The selected individual will contribute to a logical and systematic realization of customer airworthiness compliance for an air vehicle (i.e., compliance with tailored MIL-HDBK-516 criteria). Airworthiness compliance is to be performed concurrently with program objectives (i.e., flight releases, type certification, continued airworthiness, and operational or airspace integration). Responsibilities include contributions to the following:

    • Development of a basis of certification
    • Determination of tailored methods of compliances
    • Assessment of data items to determine compliance verification (e.g., Review of functional analyses, timeline analyses, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation, interface definition, hardware, and software specifications, test reports etc.)
    • Coordination/collaboration with fellow Airworthiness engineer team members
    • Coordination/collaboration with Integrated Product Teams and related disciplines (e.g., design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, maintenance, and disposal)
    • Participation in airworthiness activities throughout the development, sustainment, and disposal lifecycles of an air vehicle.
    • Have excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of personnel.

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Principal (T03): bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 5 or more years of engineering experience OR master's degree in a STEM discipline and 7 or more years of engineering experience OR a PhD Degree in a STEM discipline and 4 or more years of experience.
    • Sr. Principal (T04): bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline and 9 or more years of engineering experience OR master's degree in a STEM discipline and 7 or more years of engineering experience OR a PhD Degree in a STEM discipline and 4 or more years of experience.
    • Demonstrated air vehicle experience regarding technical airworthiness planning.
    • Demonstrated air vehicle experience in verification support including development and negotiation of airworthiness plans, basis of certifications, means of compliance, and certification activities.
    • Familiarity with MIL-HDBK-516B Expanded or -516C.
    • A current, active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance with a periodic reinvestigation.
    • Must have an active DoD Secret (or higher) clearance.
    • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master's Degree in a STEM discipline.
    • Military air vehicle development or modification experience.
    • Additional design and/or Systems Engineering experience in one or more of the following areas: Structures, Flight Technology, Propulsion, Air Vehicle Subsystems, Avionics, Mission Payload Integration, System Safety, Software, Diagnostic Systems.
    • Ability to initiate Airworthiness Certification process improvement initiatives.
    • Familiarity with USAF Airworthiness Policy Directives, Instructions, and Bulletins.
    • Experience with System Safety Risk Assessments (SSRA), program risks and hazard analyses and lifecycles.

    Salary Range: $104,600 USD - $157,000 USD
    Salary Range 2: $129,700 USD - $194,500 USD

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
