Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking for a Principal or Senior Principal Engineer Software- Embedded to support the Software Engineering organization in San Diego, CA.

As a software engineer, you will be responsible for software engineering development efforts for the program enterprise. You will be expected to develop and integrate software for complex aeronautical systems, perform basic test and quality assessments, identify and troubleshoot issues as they arise and provide feedback for future development activities. You may also be required to assist with requirements development, basic system documentation and be a member of an Agile Development Team.

Essential Functions:
Act as a team lead with formal responsibility. May mentor junior engineers.
Acts as a scrum master, product owner, or other technical thread/capability lead. Experience as an - Agile Scrum Master or Product Owner.
Has a basic understanding of work performed by all non-software engineering disciplines that interface with software. This means successful, direct interaction and understanding with at 2 of the following disciplines:

  • Program Management: Cost & Schedule
  • Customer: collaboration and briefings
  • Systems Engineering
  • Test
    Strong understanding of C/C++ including templates, memory storage, and compiler/linker.
    Strong understanding of embedded SW architecture such as:
  • Software/hardware interfaces and where they exist in the architecture
  • Event driven (Interrupts), polling and synchronous software architectures
  • Layered software architectures (e.g. Application, System, Device)
    Strong understanding of the importance of redundancy architectures and difference between flight critical and non flight critical software.
    Familiarity with at least 4 of the common flight critical interface:
  • 1553, 1394, 429, serial, CAN, Discrete & Analog I/O
    Experience with merging and synchronizing code across multiple baselines.
    Able to identify/debug performance or timing issues on the target.
    Familiarity with OS partitions and isolation architectures
    Understanding of differences between a desktop vs. target build configuration, and the limitations of each. Able to refactor or make complex changes to build.
    Familiarity with System, Subsystem, and SRS requirements (DOORS).
    Familiarity with test/debug tools, such as: Wireshark, Tcpdump, Oscilloscopes, JTAG/ICE, FireSpy, AltaDT bus monitors,

Basic Qualifications Principal Engineer Software - Embedded**:**
Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of related engineering experience, or a Master's Degree and 3 years of experience, or 0 years of experience with a PhD.
Active Secret DoD Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance

Basic Qualifications Senior Principal Engineer Software - Embedded**:**
Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of related engineering experience, or a Master's Degree and 7 years of experience, or 4 years of experience with a PhD.
Active Secret DoD Clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:
Strong understanding of desktop simulation startup and architecture.
Understanding of 2 of the following redundancy concepts:

  • CCDL, hot/warm restarts, sync, duplex vs triplex vs quad implementations
    Understanding of architectural requirements for airworthiness certifications
    Understanding of python language constructs as well as familiarity with commonly used modules.
    Familiar with writing support scripts to aid in automation or to reduce developer workload.

Salary Range: $101,400 USD - $152,200 USD
Salary Range 2: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
