Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems (NGAS) has an exciting career opportunity for a Principal or Sr. Principal Parts, Material & Processes Standards Engineer (Electrical Interconnects) to join our team of qualified and diverse individuals. The team provides an efficient and effective common parts management capability to balance the needs for Program specialization, industry compliance and Enterprise optimization. This position will be located in Palmdale, CA with regional travel of up to 25%.

Position Overview:

The NGAS Parts, Materials and Processes (PM&P) Standards Team is seeking a Senior Principal PM&P Standards Engineer - Electrical Wires, Cables, and Harnesses, who will be responsible for supporting various NGAS programs including supporting as an on-site Standards focal for the Palmdale facility. The selected candidate will support Standards Engineering efforts related to primarily electrical interconnect systems (connectors, wire, cable, harness) and may support Electrical/Electronic component technologies (e.g. passives, actives, hybrids, relays). PM&P Standards Engineering supports the spans the product life cycle from design through manufacturing and maintenance. The Standards Engineer will be collaborating with other Standards Engineers and support near term responsibilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Subject matter expert in Electrical Connectors, Interconnects, Components, Wires and Harnesses.

  • Act as Standards focal for Palmdale site and facilitate discussions between Mechanical and Electrical teams

  • Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects. Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations

  • Develops technical solutions to complex problems which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity

  • Define and maintain the internal Specs & Standards "catalog" of Electrical Interconnects and Application Manuals, Electrical/Electronic Standards drawings & documentation and the underlying infrastructure (including CAD/PDM/PLM tool suite).

  • Performs Supplier Process Audits and work with suppliers for parts and process qualifications

  • Creates and maintains electrical-related Standards & Process spec documents and updating related parts managements systems.

  • Service the system/product Design Engineering community with part selection, application, and assembly/installation guidance through 1-on-1, design review, and peer review scenarios

    • Service the Program's supply chain, internal manufacturing & assembly, and logistics/field support communities when Part/Standard product or process questions/issues arise.
    • Facilitating interaction between the Site and Program IPT personnel with the functional department Standards/Part specialist
  • Analyze and provide technical solutions to a wide range of complex and difficult problems

    • Participate in failure investigations and root cause analysis
    • Participate in industry standards committees and company initiatives
  • Communicate clearly and frequently with team members, customers and applicable stakeholders to ensure customer requirements are met including

    • Regularly interacting and communicating with Program and Functional management for technical approaches, findings, status and visibility
  • Some travel is required while supporting a variety of NGAS programs.

  • Work is performed without appreciable direction.

This requisition may be filled at either a Principal or Sr. Principal Engineer level.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal level:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 5 years of STEM related industry engineering experience; or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of industry experience; or a PhD in a STEM discipline with 0 years of industry experience
  • A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret Security Clearance is required to start with the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR/SPA).
  • Industry experience working on Electrical Interconnect/Systems part/component design, development, manufacturing, qualification and/or application.
  • Working knowledge of Electronics/Electrical part selection and application at the system/design level.
  • Able to travel up to 25%.

Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal level:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of STEM related industry engineering experience; or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 7 years of industry experience; or a PhD in a STEM discipline with 4 years of industry experience
  • A current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD Secret Security Clearance is required to start with the ability to obtain and maintain Special Program Access (PAR/SPA).
  • Industry experience working on Electrical Interconnect/Systems part/component design, development, manufacturing, qualification and/or application.
  • Working knowledge of Electronics/Electrical part selection and application at the system/design level.
  • Able to travel up to 25%.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Engineering or another STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university
  • An active U.S. Government DoD Secret clearance with current or previous access to Special Programs.
  • Experience working in an aerospace engineering environment.
    • Familiarity with the Industry Electrical Specs & Standards and the supplier base.
    • Involvement with Industry standards committees and working groups.
    • Proficient with contemporary PDM/PLM, CAD, and related engineering systems/tools.
    • Familiarity with Six Sigma, RCCA and Lean improvement methodologies.
    • Strong leadership qualities, strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to manage and leverage various communication styles.
  • Complete understanding and wide application of technical principle, theories and concepts in PM&P Electrical Systems in addition to general knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • A current active U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance with current or previous access to Special Programs (SPA/PAR).

Salary Range: $92,200 USD - $138,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $114,300 USD - $171,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
