Northrop Grumman, Mission Systems is seeking a Agile Product Owner for the Engineering and Sciences Organization. The position is located at the Advanced Technology Lab (ATL) in Linthicum, MD where we design, manufacture, and test semiconductor products for internal production and emerging programs. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in Agile software development, engaging challenging stakeholders, experience with Atlassian tools, strong experience implementing agile principles, and experience supporting users in a manufacturing environment.

The Product Owner's primary responsibility is to represent the voice of the stakeholder and ensure that the team delivers value to the business. The Product Owner (PO) is a member of the development team responsible for defining stories and prioritizing the team backlog to streamline the execution of priorities while maintaining the conceptual and technical integrity of the features or components for the team.

The Product Owner will perform the following tasks:

  • Communicate stakeholder and development team needs to drive the frequent delivery of value to the customers.
  • Coordinate and prioritize the needs for multiple stakeholders across multiple products
  • Manage stakeholder and development team expectations of the products.
  • Set the vision for the development team for highest value delivery, able to pivot when things change.
  • Decompose from product vision and outcomes (high level) into features and user stories (low level).
  • Collaborate with the stakeholders and development team to drive product discovery and product releases.
  • Provide scope and priority clarification in the backlog refinement and sprint planning meetings.
  • Define acceptance criteria for user stories.
  • Collaborate with the development team to create and refine user stories.
  • Accept or reject work from the development team, ensuring acceptance criteria and definition of done are met before acceptance.
  • Support preparation and presentation of demonstrations to stakeholders.
  • Ensure the backlog is visible, prioritized, maintained, and reflects reality.
  • Support the Scrum Master in their roles and responsibilities.
  • Coordinate with the Scrum Master in sprint execution and metrics.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Agile Product Owner:

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science or related degree plus 5 years of experience, or master's with 3 years of experience, or 0 years with PhD.
  • Must have product development experience.
  • Experience in an Agile software development environment.
  • Excellent communicator and visionary on business, user experience, and technical sides of product development.
  • Able to identify what value is in alignment or not in alignment with the organization.
  • Able to prioritize requests by value delivery - not by urgency.
  • Able to pivot, maintain an open mind, and lead the product development with the Scrum Master and development team.
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

Basic Qualifications for Senior Principal Agile Product Owner:

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science or related degree plus 9 years of experience, or a master's with 7 years of experience, or 4 years with PhD.
  • Must have product development experience.
  • Experience in an Agile software development environment.
  • Excellent communicator and visionary on business, user experience, and technical sides of product development.
  • Able to identify what value is in alignment or not in alignment with the organization.
  • Able to prioritize requests by value delivery - not by urgency.
  • Able to pivot, maintain an open mind, and lead the product development with the Scrum Master and development team.
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Product Owner certification (or higher) with Scrum Alliance, Scaled Agile, Scrum Inc., ICAgile, or any other major Agile training association specific to the Product Owner role.
  • Experience being a Product Owner in other Agile teams using Scrum or similar frameworks.
  • Has held story mapping and/or product discovery workshops with stakeholders and development teams for backlog generation.
  • Hands on experience managing all stages of the product development life cycle (from discovery to release).
  • Experience working as a developer or a Scrum Master as part of a Scrum team.
  • Extensive experience with Atlassian tool suite (Jira and Confluence).
  • Technical background with knowledge of software development technologies.

Salary Range: $96,900 USD - $145,300 USD
Salary Range 2: $120,000 USD - $180,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
