We are looking for you to join our team as a Principal or Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer based out of Apopka Florida. As a Principal or Sr. Principal Embedded Software Engineer at Northrop Grumman you will have a challenging and rewarding opportunity to be a part of our Enterprise-wide digital transformation. Through the use of Model-based Engineering, DevSecOps and Agile practices we continue to evolve how we deliver critical national defense products and capabilities for the warfighter. The successful candidate will be collaborative, open, transparent, and team-oriented with a focus on team empowerment & shared responsibility, flexibility, continuous learning, and a culture of automation.

This candidate will demonstrate a broad skill set that is balanced between interpersonal and technical capabilities. He/she must be a self-starter, able to efficiently operate in a team environment and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish the team goals. The candidate will work closely with other developers, and engineering disciplines, to accomplish the following:

  • Interface with systems engineering to develop flow down software requirements and technical specifications
  • Develop, document and maintain software both individually and as part of a larger team
  • Identify risks, suggest mitigation, track defects, develop resolutions, and track and report status
  • Conduct reviews of software related products, software designs, and technical documents
  • Exercise agile principles while developing software and overall system using continuous integration workflow
  • Ensure software code quality by exercising different types of tests, documenting the results, and exercising automated testing wherever possible.
  • Support team in integrating various sensors into a larger platform
  • Assist in the creation of hardware integration and test setups
  • Solve complex problems through innovative and creative solutions
  • Support/lead project execution over the whole product lifecycle, with foremost emphasis on meeting or exceeding customer and stakeholder requirements.
  • Facilitate and maintain good working relationships with internal and external stakeholders

This requisition may be filled at either a Principal Level or a Sr. Principal Level.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Level:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
  • 5+ years of embedded software engineering experience (3 years for MS degree, 0 years for PhD)
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following: C, C++, Java, development of Java based Android applications, Object Oriented programming
  • Experience with full software lifecycle such as: specifications, design, implementation, integration, debug and maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Experience with software/hardware integration
  • Proven communication and presentation skills
  • Experience with version control, issue tracking and collaboration tools such as ClearCase/ClearQuest, Git, Github, and/or Jira
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Security clearance

Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Level:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related technical field
  • 9+ years of embedded software engineering experience (7 years for MS degree, 4 years for PhD)
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following: C, C++, Java, development of Java based Android applications, Object Oriented programming
  • Experience with full software lifecycle such as: specifications, design, implementation, integration, debug and maintenance.
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Experience with software/hardware integration
  • Proven communication and presentation skills
  • Experience with version control, issue tracking and collaboration tools such as ClearCase/ClearQuest, Git, Github, and/or Jira
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) Security clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in real-time embedded software development knowledge of Optical, Radar, Electronic Warfare, or Space Technologies
  • Experience with wide range of communication interfaces and protocols such as USB2.0, Ethernet, 1553, TCP/IP, EIA/RS-232, I2c, SPI, and MIL-STD-1553B
  • Experience developing Android applications for embedded systems (Android SDK, Android Studio)
  • Experience with Linux Operating Systems
  • Active Secret Security clearance

Salary Range: $87,600 USD - $131,400 USD
Salary Range 2: $108,600 USD - $163,000 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
