Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Quality Engineer to join our Quality and Mission Excellence (QME) team assigned to the Advanced Technology Labs (ATL) facilities in Linthicum, Maryland. This position will report directly to the Manager Quality Engineering 2, and the qualified candidate will join a diverse and high-performing team of Quality Engineers and Analysts supporting all site operations and programs.

Positioned within the Emerging Capabilities Development (ECD) division, ATL is a DoD trusted foundry where we design, fabricate, and test semiconductor products for internal and commercial production customers, as well as emerging technology programs. With over 58,000 feet of wafer fabrication cleanrooms, ATL represents a unique capability, supporting a wide range of semiconductor technologies and devices (https://e.g. Silicon, Gallium Arsenide, Gallium Nitride, Silicon Carbide, etc...) and providing leading edge technology development in super-conducting electronics. Our devices are key enablers for a number of Northrop Grumman's radar and space systems.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provides Factory Quality Engineering support for ATL site operations, including semiconductor foundry, inspection, test, and assembly.
  • Provides Program Quality support for Emerging Capabilities Development (ECD) division programs.
  • Regularly communicates program execution status and site quality metrics to a wide audience of professionals and leadership.
  • Leverages metrics, customer, and program feedback to assess risks & opportunities.
  • Fosters a collaborative culture that sustains momentum around engagement, problem solving, and continuous improvement.
  • A champion of quality to all stakeholders and ensures compliance in collaboration with cross functional teams, including the customer.
  • Establishes strong working relationships with stakeholders across programs and functional organizations.
  • Supports internal audit program and supports third party audit activities.
  • Implements and maintains key performance indicators and takes action when needed to improve product compliance and quality performance across the facility.
  • Provides guidance to peers and management in the pursuit of quality excellence.
  • Proactively seeks out familiarity with relevant technologies, products, and processes (both manufacturing and business).
  • Confidently drives efforts to resolve complex quality problems using sound problem-solving methodology - including through application of established root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action methods.
  • Leads efforts to identify and reduce safety, quality, and business risks through application of formal and informal methods such as preventative and corrective action measures.
  • Leads continuous improvement activities in order to improve company processes.
  • Supports ATL Preventive & Corrective Action Board (PCAB).
  • Serves as a "strong voice for quality" and a role model for NG Values.
  • Drives compliance to AS9100.

This position may be filled at the Principal (T3) or Sr. Principal (T4) level, depending on experience.

Basic Qualifications for a Principal Quality Engineer:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related STEM field
  • Minimum five (5) years of relevant work experience; or three (3) years with Master's Degree; or one (1) year with PhD
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance. US Citizenship Required.

Basic Qualifications for a Sr. Principal Quality Engineer:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related STEM field
  • Minimum of nine (9) years of relevant work experience; or seven (7) years with Master's Degree; or four (4) years with PhD
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance. US Citizenship Required.

Preferred Qualifications for Both Levels:

  • Experience leading projects and/or teams.
  • Previous experience working in quality, supply chain, program management, engineering, or manufacturing.
  • Program Quality support and execution experience.
  • Product Quality support experience.
  • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems (https://e.g. AS9100, ISO 9001, etc...).
  • Defense industry experience, including interface with government customers.
  • Experience facilitating Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) and Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) activities.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) and/or Certified Quality Auditor (CQA).
  • Certified Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, or Master Black Belt.
  • Solid written and verbal technical communication skills.
  • Resilient and adaptive to situational needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills - including ability to establish and maintain positive working relationship team members, stakeholders, and customers at all levels.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Resourceful and independent, but also willing to ask questions.

MAQEA

Salary Range: $90,600 - $136,000
Salary Range 2: $112,300 - $168,500

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
