Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for an experienced Senior Principal Engineer Software - Integration & Test engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in San Diego, CA and will be part of the Software Integration and Test Automation (SI&TA) Department at the San Diego site.

The candidate will be supporting the software development team. The candidate will act as a Software Test lead maintaining software test quality, consistency, requirements, and delivering products to meet the milestones. The candidate must be able to prioritize multiple responsibilities in fast paced environments. Candidate must exhibit strong leadership characteristics in coordinating with multiple teams and managing tasks. The candidate must be able to develop and execute software installation, integration, and acceptance test procedures in an automated test environment. The candidate must be able to develop detailed, clear, and concise quality technical documentation. Candidate should be skilled in software integration planning and execution of separate software components into a single system. Candidate will work with software developers and other engineers, as needed, to help diagnose and identify the root cause of problems found during software development, integration, acceptance test, and operational events. Candidate will submit detailed problem reports for errors found. Candidate must be comfortable in both development, lab, and operational environments, as well as be able to collaborate closely with system engineers, hardware designers, integration/test engineers, and program leadership.

Responsibilities include:

  • Knowledge of, and experience working in, all phases for the Software Development Lifecycle
  • Analyze requirements allocated to computer software configuration items (CSCI).
  • Design, development, maintenance and execution of automated software tests for qualification of embedded software products
  • Coordinate and collaborate directly with software development and other engineering discipline teams to develop, write, document, and execute software requirement verification and integration tests, including identifying and tracking issues through resolution
  • Develop, maintain, execute, and validate test plans and cases
  • Execute manual and automated testing to generate test metrics and final reports on testing activities
  • Create, design, maintain and expand infrastructures to support automation
  • Utilize software development skills to design, code, and implement tests: unit, integration, regression
  • Triage, identify and isolate defects and issues in all environments and retesting
  • Review and provide feedback on test designs, policies, and processes

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 9 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in STEM with 7 years of related engineering experience, or a PhD in STEM with 4 years of related engineering experience
  • Must have software test and debugging experience.
  • Experience in software integration, software testing, and test automation
  • Must have experience with formal software life cycle development methodologies, requirements through test.
  • Must be able to independently determine and develop approach to solutions.
  • Must have experience in Agile methodologies
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in a STEM field
  • Demonstrated understanding of application and embedded software integration procedures
  • Demonstrated experience with software test automation at multiple requirement levels
  • Experience in a Software Engineering leadership role
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interface with all levels of employees and management.
  • Proven ability to brief technical presentations to stakeholders.
  • Python / C / C++ programing experience
  • Active, in scope DoD Top Secret or SCI clearance

Salary Range: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
