Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Sr. Principal Engineer, Modeling and Simulation to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in El Segundo, CA.

The selected candidate will design, develop, and maintain Matlab / Simulink integrated subsystems models. The candidate will be expected to produce environmental control system models in a multi-domain environment. The candidate will be working with a team of senior developers who will provide training. The position offers an air vehicle level perspective of subsystems performance and flight operations, as well as exposure to all the air vehicle subsystems and their technical experts along with hands-on experience integrating the model with operational flight and ground software.

Responsibilities include:

  • Design, develop and maintain models in a standalone and integrated environment with a focus on air vehicle subsystems
  • Contribute to the common tools library used to build integrated subsystem models
  • Demonstrate working software throughout development and solicit technical expert feedback
  • Provide feedback to technical experts on the performance and architecture of the modeled system
  • Provide technical support for users

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 9 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's degree in STEM with 7 years of related engineering experience, or a PhD in STEM with 4 years of related engineering experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret Clearance or higher
  • Subsystems modeling and simulation experience using physics-based models
  • Proficient in Matlab and Simulink
  • Able to produce models that adhere to set of guidelines and standards
  • Familiarity in control system engineering

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A desire to develop system plant models as well as code the controllers for those models
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance or higher
  • Knowledgeable in environmental control system design and hardware sizing calculations
  • Working knowledge of air vehicle subsystems outside of environmental control systems
  • Self-starter able to debug and improve existing models and code as needed
  • Proficient in SVN or other configuration management software
  • Knowledgeable in C/C++, Python and/ or Javascript
  • Proficient in developing controllers for vehicle subsystems
  • Real-time simulation development experience
  • Able to produce high quality work with an attention to detail
  • Experience developing applications on NGC real-time component framework (RTCF)

Salary Range: $125,800 USD - $188,600 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
