    Northrop Grumman is currently seeking a Staff Acoustics Engineer - Ship Signatures and Radiated Noise CURRENT/ACTIVE CLEARANCE to work with our talented Undersea Systems team in Annapolis, MD.

    The ideal candidate will have knowledge in passive and active acoustics, including modeling, testing and evaluation, monitoring, and mitigation. This position will require close collaboration with team members of multiple projects to leverage noise modeling, prediction, monitoring, and mitigation on existing technology as well as working with the program team to innovate system architecture to develop for and adapt to the industry and customer's needs.

    In this role, the selected candidate will (but not be limited to):

    • Perform detailed analyses of the dynamic behavior of undersea systems and structures using finite element and Multiphysics models.
    • Perform functional analysis and systems trade studies for technical solutions with respect to concept, design, fabrication, test, installation, operation, and maintenance.
    • Evaluate undersea systems, ship systems, and components to conceptualize and develop noise control features and direct analysts or subcontractors to analyze the effectiveness of design features and ensure the system's radiated noise requirements are satisfied.
    • Plan and execute an acoustic, vibration, radiated noise testing plan to validate the effectiveness of noise controls.
    • Testing is performed on location as needed to support the system and structural and mechanical acoustic design work.
    • Acoustics Engineers are involved in development of concepts for noise control of current and future undersea system designs, and complete research to extend the state-of-the-art in advanced noise control technology and acoustic analysis methods.
    • Have knowledge of electronic instrumentation and measurement, electronic component design, acoustic theory, signal processing, and mechanical and system engineering.
    • The successful candidate will be responsible for prediction and control of noise generated by hydrodynamic flow, as well as the design and analysis of treatment performance, developing and integrating systems such as acoustic or other electronic arrays onto the undersea system, and designing noise control solutions for flow-exposed systems.

    Basic qualifications:

    • Active DoD Secret clearance or ability to obtain a Secret clearance
    • Bachelor of Science in a STEM discipline - mechanical, aerospace, materials, or ocean engineering, or Physics - and a minimum of 14 years of systems engineering experience, or Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and a minimum of 12 years of systems engineering experience
    • Must have at least five to ten (5-10) years noise modeling, monitoring, and mitigation experience
    • Experience in mechanical engineering, fluid systems engineering, signal processing, and testing and data acquisition
    • Must have proven experience in communicating with all levels of peers, management, and customers in a methodical, detailed and process-oriented fashion
    • Must have demonstrated experience in developing advanced technological ideas and guide their development into a final product
    • Must have excellent communication skills, written and verbal

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience working in the defense industry or weapon systems
    • Must have at least five (10) years' experience in noise modeling, testing, monitoring, and mitigation
    • Experience with COMSOL
    • Leadership experience specifically related to noise control, acoustics, or vibrations

    Salary Range: $153,600 USD - $230,400 USD

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
