    Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is currently seeking a Staff Aerodynamics Engineer in Northridge CA.

    Location
    Position is located in Northridge, CA and requires on-site support. The selected candidate must be local or able to relocate to be within commuting distance.
    Relocation assistance may not be available for this position.

    Job Summary
    Use broad knowledge of vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, propulsion, control, and estimation theory to solve complex aerospace engineering problems. Contribute to development of new knowledge, concepts, products, and innovative solutions. Interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate technical assignments for aerospace engineering activities. Plan, organize and supervise the work of a team of engineers and technicians. Evaluate progress and results obtained. Recommend major changes to achieve objectives.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop aerodynamic configurations using problem set appropriate aerodynamic methodologies and prediction tools. Research and implement aerodynamics methodology advancements.
    • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines in supersonic/hypersonic airframe design and analysis to generate requirements for OML.
    • Plan, direct and execute CFD analyses and wind tunnel tests. Prepare and present aerodynamics trade studies, designs, and models.
    • Conduct critical reviews of aero models and compare them to validated models or empirically derived data. Verify and approve aerodynamics models. Attend and approve various design reviews and test readiness reviews.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • BS in Engineering & 14 years of relevant experience; or master's in engineering & 12 years of relevant experience; or PhD in Engineering & 9 years of relevant experience
    • Active DOD Secret Security Clearance
    • Demonstrate capability in the following areas:
    • Aerodynamic design, control surface sizing and prediction of 6 component aerodynamic coefficients.
    • Development of stability and control derivatives
    • Flight dynamics analyses and predictions
    • Development of test matrices for CFD and Wind Tunnel testing. Conduct of CFD analysis and Wind Tunnel tests. Evaluate test results. Critical analysis and evaluation of test and analytic results.
    • Development of 6DOF aerodynamic models. Verification of aerodynamic models in 6DOF nonlinear simulations.
    • Flight vehicle control actuation system sizing
    • FNS CFD solvers, potential flow codes, Missile DATCOM or equivalent, MATLAB, Simulink
    • Collaborate in flight vehicle system development

    Desired Qualifications

    • Master or PhD in Aerospace Engineering or Aerodynamics
    • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance
    • Experience using Ansys Fluent, Star CCM+ or CFD++
    • Experience in tactical missile design
    • Working knowledge of Multi-Disciplined Analysis and Optimization
    • Understanding of
    • Configuration management
    • Missile guidance and flight control
    • Software development process

    Salary Range: $157,500 - $236,300

    The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

    Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
