Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our Structures Analysis team within the Hardware Engineering Organization. Highly qualified and experienced individuals will be considered for a Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer position. The position is located in Linthicum, Maryland.

Position Overview:
This position includes both leadership of analysts and direct execution of structural analysis projects on airborne, shipboard, and ground based structures. Analysis tasks will encompass loads development, stress analysis (static and fatigue), and vibration analysis of metallic and composite structures. Structural Lead tasks will include mentoring, estimating, planning, staffing recommendations, preparation of deliverable documentation and statusing program customers. Structural Leads are expected to work closely with Integrated Product Team (IPT) Leads/Product Owners to: meet aggressive schedules, develop innovative solutions to complex technical problems, and advise program and functional management on technical risks and opportunities. Staff Engineers are expected to work towards long term organizational goals, by improving processes, conducting research, and identifying efficiency and competitive advantage opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities may Include:

  • Performing structural analysis on aerospace, shipboard, ground based, and space radar systems and structures.
  • Loads development, stress analysis (static and fatigue), and vibration analysis of metallic and composite structures.
  • Performing classical structural analysis, as well as, finite element analysis is essential. Utilizing excellent written and verbal communication skills are important for clear communication of results through reports and presentations.
  • Collaborate in a team environment, mentor less experienced personnel, prioritize and organize tasks to support program milestones.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Civil Engineering.
  • Typical minimum structural analysis experience / education: 14 years with Bachelors of Science; 12 years with Masters.
  • Strong background in classical structural and finite element analysis including static, non-linear, modal, and vibration analysis.
  • Awareness for cost reduction, weight management and structural efficiency.
  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance per business requirements.
  • Significant experience and comfort with FEA using NX.CAE(SimCenter 3D)/NX.Nastran, Ansys, or MSC Patran/Nastran
  • Significant experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience developing FEMs at the detail and assembly levels.
  • Structural project leadership or stress team leadership experience, with responsibility for multiple analysts' work.
  • Comfort with presentation to internal and external customers.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Significant experience with airborne products, environments and requirements.
  • Experience with FAA certification, or DoD qualification of airborne products.
  • Previous MRB Authority
  • Advanced degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Active Secret, or Top Secret/SCI clearance.
  • Experience with structural test applications, and composite material property development.

Salary Range: $135,000 USD - $203,200 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
