The Defense Systems Sector Engineering team seeks a System Engineer/Principal System Engineer to support the development of future digital engineering capabilities for the sector and support the enterprise as part of the newly formed corporate Digital Transformation Office (DTO). The selected candidate will assist in the development of the Digital Design portfolio's Digital Engineering capabilities. These capabilities will drive enhanced collaboration with manufacturing and supply chain as well as advancements in modeling and simulation, digital thread, design automation and Dev*Ops. The candidate will also help shape Defense Systems' Digital Engineering strategy and grow into leading projects that deploy our next-generation Digital Engineering capabilities to sites throughout Defense Systems. This position will be based in one of the following locations: McLean, VA; Huntsville, AL; Orlando, FL; Elkton, MD; or Plymouth, MN.
This position reports to the Defense Systems Sector Director, Systems Engineering and will be matrixed to the Defense Systems Sector Director of Digital Transformation. The successful candidate for this role will work directly with the DS Digital Engineering Lead and with the Defense Systems operating divisions to incorporate Digital Engineering into their day-to-day activities, including direct participation in working sessions, developing artifacts and content, providing guidance, and helping division programs work through challenges related to adopting Digital Engineering.
This position will require onsite work however for this role a hybrid work schedule will be possible. The primary responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
• Identify the right Digital Engineering processes and tools to use to solve our Defense Systems programs challenges
• Help teams implement Digital Engineering processes, such as Agile, Dev*Ops, Performance Modeling, Virtual Simulation & Testing, and Model Based Engineering practices and tools
• Support geographically separated Agile teams and work effectively with cross-functional and cross-sector individuals within those teams
• Help ensure we're employing Digital Engineering properly to meet customer requirements, e.g. major milestone meetings and CDRL deliveries
• Some engineers are new to Digital Engineering, and you'll help them get up to speed and become effective practitioners
• Provide informal training on Digital Engineering processes and tools
Basic Qualifications for Systems Engineer:
• Bachelor of Science degree in STEM field with 2 plus years of experience; 0 plus years with a Master's Degree; 0 plus years with PhD.
• Must be comfortable working in an Agile team
• Must have active DoD Secret level clearance, with eligibility to obtain TS/SCI.
• Self-starter with ability to take on complex problems with ambiguity
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong ownership of problems and ability to offer and implement solutions
• Desire to actively work toward process improvement and efficiency
Basic Qualifications for Principal Systems Engineer:
• Bachelor of Science degree in STEM field with 5 plus years of experience; 3 plus years with a Master's Degree; 0 plus years with PhD.
• Must be comfortable working in an Agile team
• Must have active DoD Secret level clearance, with eligibility to obtain TS/SCI.
• Self-starter with ability to take on complex problems with ambiguity
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong ownership of problems and ability to offer and implement solutions
• Desire to actively work toward process improvement and efficiency
Preferred Qualifications for Systems Engineer/Principal Systems Engineer:
• Experience with collaborating with other engineers and cross-functional teams.
• Active Top Secret Clearance
• Ansys Model Center experience
• Familiarity with Digital Engineering concepts such as Digital Threads and Digital Twins, hands-on experience a significant plus
• Familiarity with Agile development experience, including use of Atlassian products such as Jira and Confluence
• Familiarity with modeling and simulation tools, such as System ToolKit (STK) and Simulink
• Experience with Software Engineering with Python, Java, and C++
• Dev*Ops Pipelines in Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment is a plus
Salary Range: $71,100 USD - $123,600 USD
Salary Range 2: $87,600 USD - $152,200 USD
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
