Northrop Grumman's Aeronautics Systems sector is currently hiring an Vehicle Engineering Manager 3 - Assistant Department Manager, to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This leadership role is located in Melbourne, FL.

This position reports to the Director of Flight Sciences and Vehicle Integration and in some areas will act as the CoP (Community of Practice) DOA for the Director of Vehicle Engineering. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in a variety of Strategic, Execution, Staffing and Employee Development tasks summarized here.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic

  • Assist in the development and implement of departmental vision and strategies to drive employee engagement; improve hiring, development, training and retention of top talent; manage products and associated product champions; balance process compliance against innovation; and reduce bureaucracy
  • Own department products and/or process/metrics & associated strategies
  • Partner with DM/Directorate to build/maintain technical breadth and depth of department

Execution

  • Assist DM with tactical execution of all department manager activities including managing, mentoring, developing, and training section managers
  • Partner with programs to drive affordability, first time quality and cost competitiveness for all department products and indirect activities
  • Responsible for cost, schedule, and technical performance of department NCTA efforts
  • Drive continuous process improvement and usage of common processes by department members across programs, as appropriate; influence use of common tools and processes and represent
  • Vehicle Engineering as the process council champion
  • Review/approve proposals, ensuring a balanced execution/risk posture given affordability/competitiveness objectives
  • Attend program reviews and ensure department is meeting program technical, process, product, and staffing needs
  • Support program tiger teams, RCCA investigations, deep dives, SOO goals, IRTs and milestone reviews

The selected candidate should have extensive experience in the following areas:

  • Vehicle Engineering Design and/or Analysis
  • Vehicle Engineering Tools, Processes, and Metrics
  • Vehicle Engineering Products (e.g., PDPs, ADPs, System Architectures, etc.)
  • Supplier Management Teams
  • Root Cause Analyses and Corrective & Preventative Action Tracking (e.g., CPATS)
  • Cost Accounting (e.g., prior experience as a Program/Functional CAM)
  • Presenting to executive leaders

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelor's of Science degree in a STEM discipline AND 12 years of related professional/military experience in engineering that includes a background in Air Vehicle Engineering, OR a Master's degree AND 10 years of related professional/military experience in engineering that includes a background in Air Vehicle Engineering.
  • Experience in Vehicle Engineering processes and products throughout the program life cycle
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and guidance to Vehicle Engineering discipline areas
  • Must have an active DoD Secret or higher clearance (with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation).
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active DoD Top Secret clearance ( with a background investigation completed within the last 6 years or currently enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)
  • Current/Active Special Program Access (SAP)
  • Extensive experience with Vehicle Engineering tools related to design and/or analysis processes (e.g., NX, Teamcenter, Femap, Nastran, Amesim, Capital, Star-CCM+, Nimbus, etc.)
  • NG PM Skills
  • General understanding of all NGAS Engineering Processes
  • Prior Functional Homeroom management experience

Salary Range: $147,700 USD - $221,500 USD

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
