    Job Description 

    The Otsuka Legal Affairs Department identifies and assists in addressing legal risks in clinical development and commercialized products as well as new business opportunities, protects existing intellectual property (“IP”) and identifies new IP opportunities, negotiates company contracts, manages litigation, monitors legal developments within the pharmaceutical industry, ensures best corporate governance practices are followed and promotes an ethical culture that fosters best practices and compliance with applicable federal and state laws and regulations and Otsuka’s own Code of Business Conduct and Ethics. 

    The Legal Affairs Internship will provide an opportunity for a student who is interested in the health law field to work with experienced legal professionals at Otsuka. The assignment will include hands-on work on projects that provide practical experience with the legal, compliance, and business drivers and needs of a national pharmaceutical company. 

    The primary focus of the summer Legal Affairs Fellowship will be to assist on projects jointly overseen by experienced corporate attorneys and related to Otsuka’s clinical development and promotional activities and other areas of legal risk. The Fellow is also expected to gain exposure to other functional areas of Otsuka and will have the opportunity to meet and interact with seasoned professionals with varying backgrounds and expertise and to gain exposure to the business. 

    Qualifications/ Required 

    Knowledge/ Experience and Skills: 

    Applicants must meet the following criteria: 

    Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal, written, and public engagements in speaking with key opinion leaders, training sales, and educating customers regarding reimbursement strategy and updates 

    Ability to organize and manage multiple projects in executing on key deliverables within required timeframes. 

    Educational Qualifications 

    Minimum 

    Must be 1L or a rising second and third year JD student  

    Must be in good academic standing and must be planning on returning to the university for the following semester  

    Demonstrates behaviors aligned with the Otsuka Corporate Brand including Perseverance, Unconventional Thinking, and Humility 

    Demonstrate ability to work in a team environment 

    Demonstrate ability to think creatively to solve complex problems 

    Exhibits eagerness to learn and ability to learn quickly 

    Preferred 

    Preference will be given to students on the School of Law’s Health Law Track or Business Law Track, but participation in those programs is not required 

    Demonstrated interpersonal skills 

    Demonstrated leadership skills 

    Demonstrated oral and written communication skills 

    Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
