Director, Payer Marketing - Rare Disease

The Director, Payer & Channel Access Marketing, will have the opportunity to change the lives of appropriate patients by leading the development and growth of Brands in the Pfizer portfolio. This position will lead the U.S. payer access strategy including the payer value platform for Vyndaqel/Vyndamax, a breakthrough cardiomyopathy drug.  This position is part of the U.S. Payer and Channel Access (PCA) organization and will be closely aligned to the Rare Disease North America Commercial team including the Vyndaqel Brand, post-rx and patient access teams.  This role reports to the Access Lead for Rare Disease.

This individual will provide continued support during the growth phase for Vyndaqel/Vyndamax and prepare for the market evolution, including future competitive entrants. The director will lead the U.S. Value Access Team (VAT) responsible for executing the payer access plan across all key Pfizer functions. The Director will also be the PCA member representing the U.S. interests on the PHI Global Vyndaqel Value Access Team. This role will work with a cross-functional team to leverage insights in the development and evolution of a compelling payer value proposition that ensures continued access and reimbursement for appropriate patients. 

We seek a high-performing individual who has a good understanding of the payer space with Brand and/or payer marketing experience. This individual should have some understanding of the market access dynamics within the rare disease category.

This individual will have the opportunity to own the payer value platform for a critical Rare Disease Brand with associated accountability for achieving and maintaining quality access for patients. The candidate should have the ability to interact with Senior Leaders and have a track record demonstrating strong leadership, marketing, communication, influence, and strategic thinking abilities.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Direct ownership and responsibility for evolving the US payer Value Platform, incorporating insights from Account Management, PHI, Customer Marketing, Market Access Strategy & Analytics, and other internal and external stakeholders
• Responsible for facilitating/developing the US access strategy, US pricing (WAC and net price) changes, and integrating a potential contracting strategy, while ensuring integration into the Brand Operating Plan
• Lead lifecycle access planning and competitive intelligence taskforce, including development of strategies to maintain leadership access during the introduction of new competitive entrants
• Generate customer insights that drive the creation of our value messages and measure the effectiveness of those messages and how they’re delivered
• Ensure that communication of the value platform is personalized by customer segment and stakeholder; and delivered through the most effective channels
• Work with PHI (Patient Health Impact) to set priorities for evidence generation; ensure timely delivery of claims to support product access across all channels
• Lead the US Value and Access Team (VAT), a cross-functional matrix team of various access subject-matter experts, to align, develop and advance all Brand payer-related strategies and activities across key functions that support access for Vyndaqel/Vyndamax
• Support development of the Customer/Brand engagement strategy for top accounts within Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, and Federal channels
• Review and update as needed appropriate access targets/GTN assumptions and ensure ongoing alignment with RD BU leaders
• Lead the Payer Account Director Field Input Team to ensure continual feedback on the effectiveness of current messages, tools, and resources; as well as preparing for key conferences and internal Pfizer meetings (ie. POA)
• Inform customer pricing and contracting evaluations and decisions including participation in appropriate governance meetings.
• Develop and align key strategies and initiatives with internal stakeholders, including Senior Leadership

QUALIFICATIONS:

  
Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred in business or healthcare related course of study.
• 8 - 10 years of combined experience in the U.S. pharmaceutical/healthcare market required.
• Pharmaceutical marketing background with payer marketing experience ideal but not required
• Pharmaceutical launch experience desired
• Marketing and market access experience with orphan medicines preferred
• Pharmaceutical business leadership, including experience in strategy development required
• Prior success delivering results and experience collaborating across multiple stakeholders to drive results required
• Demonstrated ability to develop strategy that links to executable tactics required
• Able to effectively lead and influence in a matrix team environment where there is not a direct reporting relationship
• Track record demonstrating strong collaboration and communication skills; outstanding writing and presentation skills
• Strategic mindset, analytical thinking, interpersonal skills, leadership skills, financial/quantitative skills, and innovative thinking
• Ability to work under pressure, to take accountability for business challenges, think strategically and tackle complex problems
• Demonstrated ability to generate customer insights and utilize those insights to develop a compelling value proposition that is effectively communicated to customers
