    Position summary

The Agile Enterprise Solutions (AES) team represents the Digital Center of Excellence (CoE) for cloud infrastructure capabilities, providing foundational public and private cloud services to all business lines, globally across Pfizer.  AES is a high-performing team, focused on delivering secure, scalable, compliant, operationally viable, and cost-effective cloud solutions.

The Cloud Optimization Lead role will establish a dedicated function within AES for cloud service optimization.  This role will interface directly with Digital finance teams, Creation Center consumer groups, and external cloud service providers (e.g. AWS) to effectively optimize cloud solutions and assist teams in optimizing cloud spend across the enterprise.

The Cloud Optimization Lead will establish and maintain an enterprise cloud optimization strategy.  The optimization strategy requires instilling a continuous efficiency mindset across the enterprise that considers all facets of cost and usage within established cloud solutions.  Strategy implementation will include the creation of a defined process methodology, continuous reporting, identification and pursuit of optimization opportunities with consumers, and use of cloud service provider features to control spend.

A strict adherence to data-driven approaches, and a bias towards automation and tooling will be required to sufficiently scale functionality across Digital.

Working within Agile Enterprise Solutions is to be at the cutting edge of cloud technology within the context of the world’s leading biopharmaceutical organization, at a time when adoption of these technologies is increasing rapidly.

Pfizer seeks individuals that are highly self-motivated, eager to learn, and are effective when working in a team environment.  A strong aptitude towards self-development and growth is highly desired.

The Cloud Business Office Lead must be able operate independently with the ability to influence and coalesce with solution teams across the organization to manage cloud spend and drive effective optimization.

    Responsibilities include:

    • Develop comprehensive cloud consumption and optimization reporting utilizing both native, and 3rd party systems to provide near real-time insights into spend performance and opportunities for improvement.
    • Identify automation opportunities to facilitate cloud cost optimization.
    • Work directly with Cloud Business Office lead to track and report on optimization opportunities such as right-sizing and scheduling.
    • Work directly with Customer Reliability Engineering Lead to develop an enterprise cloud optimization strategy for Pfizer’s public cloud environments.
    • Work directly with Digital Creation Center Solutions teams to provide insights into their cloud usage and costs; provide optimization recommendations based on both present and future planned cloud usage patterns.
    • Design a strategic approach for effective resource utilization management based on Infrastructure-as-Code principles, promoting API/policy-based controls to reduce spend for non-production systems.
    • Execute on approved cost reduction initiatives for which AES has approved authority including (but not limited to): right-sizing, asset disposition, establishing power down profiles, etc.
    • Leverage and extend cloud service provider tools and APIs around cost management, budgets and optimization recommendations.
    • Work collaboratively with external parties including cloud suppliers (e.g. AWS) and Pfizer AES strategic suppliers (e.g. TCS) as part of reporting and optimization activities.
    • Commit to ongoing learning and professional development.
