As a Senior Associate Scientist in the exploratory assay team within the Bacterial Vaccines Technology (BVT) group, you will be at the center of our operations. You’ll find that everything we do, every day, is in line with an unwavering commitment to quality. Our team plays a key role in the early development of vaccines, focusing on cell-based assays that measure functional immune responses to candidate subunit, glycoconjugate or modRNA antigens using a variety of different platform technologies. You will be an active team member who will use your creativity and experience to generate preclinical research data for vaccine proof-of-concept. Your cell-biology background and prior experience will allow you to adapt existing assay approaches while applying new ideas and techniques to develop mechanistically relevant immunogenicity assays.
Develop in-vitro cell-based assays for early phase, exploratory bacterial vaccine programs by utilizing knowledge in microbiology and immunology, initially under guidance and later independently
Apply technical skills and functional knowledge to individual work projects and team projects independently and proactively
Design, plan, and execute assay development to further project goals
Effectively analyze, interpret, and summarize experimental data
Present scientific data at group meetings, project team meetings, and department meetings, as required
Demonstrate problem solving skills and troubleshoot issues
Have a willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing priorities
Maintain laboratory notebook in a detailed and descriptive manner on a timely basis
Proactively gather input from literature, colleagues, additional resources to drive projects forward
Manage daily, weekly, and monthly laboratory activities, such as laboratory restocking, periodic laboratory cleaning and managing the laboratory waste
Comply with all safety training and good laboratory practices
Must-Have
B.S. in degree in cell biology, microbiology, or a related discipline with 3+ years of relevant experience, M.S. with 1+ years of relevant experience
At least 1 year of hands-on experience with microplate assay development
Experience handling infectious agents and biological materials safely, in BSL-2 conditions
Excellent organizational skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, strong motivation, and a dedicated work ethic
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and relevant scientific software, including graphing/statistical analysis tools
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Nice-to-Have
Hands-on experience with fluorescence microscopy
3+ years of cell biology related research experience post-graduation
Experience with liquid handling lab automation
Experience with flow cytometry
Experience with bacterial or viral neutralization assays
Experience with mammalian cell culture techniques
