    What You Will Achieve

    Working with Pfizer’s dynamic engineering team, you will play a critical part in managing the maintenance and reliability engineering activities involving the redesign, maintenance, and repair of utilities systems, buildings, and production/non-production equipment.

    You will be a team member who is relied to have a good understanding of procedures, techniques, tools, materials and equipment. Your decision making will help you prioritize workflows based on the available resources. You will follow standard procedures to complete tasks, some of which may vary in scope, sequence, complexity and timing. You will contribute to the team’s success by sharing your previously acquired knowledge.

    This critical role operates, maintains, and applies detailed knowledge of all Utilities equipment to ensure personnel safety, equipment safety and functionality, and uninterrupted production operations.

    The Utilities Maintenance Mechanic is a vital role within the Engineering, Maintenance, and Utilities (EMU) organization.  This individual provides in-depth HVACR and Utilities equipment knowledge from 3-8 years’ Industrial Plant Utilities and Facilities maintenance and 0-3 years’ experience in a cGMP facility.

    As part of a multi-functional team, the job-holder interacts daily with all HVACR systems; compressed gas systems such as nitrogen and compressed air; as well as water and steam systems (cGMP and non-cGMP) such as softened, Reverse Osmosis (RO), Water for Injection (WFI), Plant Steam, Clean Steam, Chilled Water, Cooling Towers, Boilers, Heating Hot Water, Fire Protection, and Emergency Use (Eye Wash / Safety Showers).

    How You Will Achieve It

    • Participate in multi-craft work activities as required.
    • Assist with plant audits and be involved in safety committee to conduct safety inspection and audits.
    • Track repair history of process support systems and equipment.
    • Lead or participate in continuous improvement activities.
    • Read and follow equipment schematics, logic diagrams and engineering drawings.
    • Conduct rounds in Good Manufacturing Practices (also see cGMP) and non-GMP buildings, troubleshoot GMP equipment and systems.
    • Train peers and mechanics on equipment supported by the Instrument Shop.
    • Ensure all maintenance activity is completed within designated timeframe filing proper documentation per Standard Operating Procedures as necessary for extensions.
    • Follow all Environmental, Health, and Safety requirements and protocols.
    • Make recommendations regarding improved machine performance.
    • Read and interpret detailed blueprints and schematics.
    • Manage own time and professional development, accountable for own results and prioritize own workflow.
    • Operate all systems in accordance with required Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), current Good Manufacturing Procedures (cGMP), Occupational Safety & Health Association regulations (OSHA), and any other applicable guidelines, recommendations, codes, or regulations.
    • Support installation and testing of new equipment and systems.
    • Complete departmental documentation of activities.
    • Assist EHS, Quality, Production, Engineering, and/or other departments in troubleshooting issues.
    • Assist Utilities Team Lead to oversee vendor and contract services for preventative maintenance and immediate repair issues.
    • Serve as key resource for the critical and non-critical Utilities equipment and systems.  Maintain comprehensive knowledge of Utilities Department procedures, techniques, and tools/equipment.
    • Participate in daily technical status reporting and follow-up of previous shift issues.  Follow guidance from department leadership and recommend/perform corrective maintenance as necessary.
    • Proficiently operate and maintain various standard maintenances tools and equipment including basic hand and power tools, multi-meters, etc.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
    • Basic navigation of other computer software as required.
    • Has ability to prioritize own work flow.
    • Can make decisions that impact shift work.

    Qualifications

    Must-Have

    • High School Diploma or GED
    • 2+ years of experience
    • Excellent computer user skills
    • Functional or Technical Knowledge of basic discipline
    • Good verbal and written communication skills
    • Sound interpersonal, decision making, and problem solving skills
    • Two plus years maintenance experience with utilities and facilities preferably in an industrial and/or cGMP manufacturing setting
    • Ability to use sound judgement in the completion of assignments and in resolving complex issues in the scope of work
    • Ability to read and interpret technical documents such as P&IDs, Maintenance & Equipment Operating manuals, and SOPs.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical and process systems employed in a cGMP manufacturing environment.
    • Experience with cGMP and non-cGMP Utilities systems

    Nice-to-Have

    • Bachelor's Degree
    • Previous Biopharma experience
    • Knowledge of Food and Drug Administration PSM, Good Manufacturing Practices {also cGMP} policies and procedures
    • EPA Universal Refrigerant License
    • One or more of the following certifications and/or education:
    • ICC Journeyman or Master Mechanical
    • ICC Journeyman or Master Plumber with Gas
    • ICC Journeyman or Master Electrician
    • GCAP Boiler Operator Certification level 1 or 2
    • HVACR Certified Technician / HVACR Associate of Applied Science
    • Other Technical or Associate Degree with related experience

     

    PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Standing, sitting, kneeling, and walking for extended periods of time.

    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

    NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

    • 12-Hour shift schedule.
    • Overtime as directed by management.
    • Extended hours during plant shutdowns.
