    Overview:

    Phenomenex Applications Laboratory is looking for a highly goal-oriented, entrepreneurial, and motivated individual to take on the role of Senior Application Scientist.  This person will contribute to method development for applications in the Biopharmaceutical market. The Biopharma Sr. Applications Scientist will be responsible for the planning, development, and execution of Phenomenex scientific publications (application notes, technotes, case studies, and white papers) in the Biopharmaceutical market.  

    This position is a laboratory-focused role, and the ideal candidate enjoys hands-on development and technical troubleshooting for chromatographic, sample preparation and LC-MS/MS methodologies. This individual will closely collaborate with Phenomenex team members from R&D, Sales, and the rest of the Marketing team to achieve company’s goals.  

    A confident public speaker relating to the topics of LC-MS/MS in a variety of common industry workflows would be essential in supporting customers and sales representatives with technical challenges. The candidate should feel comfortable working within a fast-paced, Lean Six Sigma, environment that fosters collaboration.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Support customers directly with application development as well as advanced troubleshooting and method consulting.

    • Work with R&D, Sales, and Marketing to commercialize and promote (through brochure, web, technical and seminar content) new products and applications to the scientific community.

    • Work closely with product management, strategic marketing, and R&D on new product development to meet needs in target markets.

    • Creates and delivers trainings and seminars for colleagues and customers on new products and applications.

    • Ability to research, develop and present separation and sample preparation methods for hot bioanalytical areas based on Phenomenex technology and products.

    • Present data to customers via customer visits, seminars/webinars, tradeshow presentations, and technical posters.

    • Independently leads application development projects including accurate planning, prioritization, and completion.

    • Provides guidance, mentorship, and technical training to other team members.

    • Aid in the trouble shooting and technical support of customers and distributors worldwide.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • PhD in Biological Sciences field with 3+ years of experience in Biochemistry, Biophysics, or related field -OR- Masters in Biological Sciences field with 5+ years of experience -OR- Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences with 7+ years of experience.

    • Travel of up to 15% or more to customer sites and/or scientific meetings or trade shows to cultivate relationships with customers and experts in the scientific community.

    Key Skills and Attributes used for Measurement of Success:

    • Strong knowledge/background of LC-MS/MS workflows (from sample preparation to bioinformatic analysis) for at least one of the following:

      • Proteomics

      • Intact Protein (mAbs)

      • Oligonucleotides/mRNA

      • GCTs

    • Ability to use and troubleshoot LC-MS/MS instrumentations, preferably with SCIEX mass spectrometers with Analyst and/or SCIEX OS software.

    • Ability to confidently use bioinformatics software for data processing as needed.

    • Experience and the ability to train junior members of a team.

    • Solid laboratory skills and good troubleshooting skills.

    • Knowledge of low flow chromatography (nano and micro) is a plus.

    While this role is posted in many cities it is ONLY AVAILABLE onsite at our Torrance location in SoCal.
