The Market Settlement Development team supports the systems responsible for calculating and reporting financial settlements related to PJM's Wholesale Electric Markets and Transmission Services, representing over $50B annually.
The Analyst/Engineer will participate in various stages of the Software Development Lifecycle, ranging from requirement definition, technical design, development, testing, and implementation of enhanced Markets Settlement system functionality to support PJM's market initiatives. In addition, the position will provide support for existing Market Settlements system functionality by enhancing business and technical documentation. There is additional opportunity to perform data analysis in support of regulatory, customer, or internal data requests.
The individual must have a strong desire to solve complex technical and functional challenges and draw satisfaction from problem solving and solving logic puzzles.
This position provides the successful candidate with abundant opportunities to learn about PJM's markets and operations as nearly all activity flows downstream to Market Settlements.

Essential Functions:

  • Document business and/or technical requirements for upcoming changes to Market Settlements system functionality as well enhance documentation for existing system functionality.

  • Test software programs for validity of results, accuracy, reliability and conformance to design specifications. Assist in development and communication of effective strategies that support continual evolution of efficient PJM settlement systems and processes in compliance with the PJM agreements and audit activities.

  • Support the design and development of the market settlements calculation and reporting systems through various projects. This includes proactively working with other departments to plan, develop, and implement new PJM markets or changes to existing PJM business rules, with a particular focus on ensuring the feasibility of implementing such rule changes with the Market Settlements systems..

  • Coordinate and perform settlement and market operations data analysis and reporting to support audit activities as well as regulatory, customer and internal information requests.

  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to ensure clarity, interpretation, and documentation of business practices in alignment with PJM Agreements, Manuals and all PJM formal documents.

  • Identify opportunities for improvement within existing and proposed business functions and tools.

Characteristics & Qualifications:
Required:

  • BS degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or equivalent work experience

  • 0-5 years of experience testing software changes and documenting results

  • Experience navigating relational databases Experience in writing technical and/or functional system documentation

  • Ability to produce high-quality work products with attention to detail

  • Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment

  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative analysis

  • Experience using verbal and written communications skills

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (MS-Word, MS-Excel and MS-PowerPoint)

  • Ability to organize complex problems in a way that is understandable to others

Preferred:

  • BS degree in Information Technology

  • At least 5 years of experience Experience with relational database query structure (PL/SQL preferred) and ability to translate to written requirements

  • 0-5 years of experience Experience with wholesale electric markets or utilities

  • 0-5 years of experience Experience with Jira or Confluence

  • Experience with PJM operations, markets, and planning functions

  • Experience supporting any of PJM Committees
