Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) collaborates across the enterprise to ensure that Prudential has a comprehensive understanding of the risks embedded in and across its businesses, enabling the Company to manage risks effectively and evaluate current and future risk challenges and opportunities.

Our focus is on using the tools and frameworks developed over the years to address the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for Prudential as the ecosystems that touch our businesses continue to evolve.

Prudential is looking for a Chief Market Risk Officer (CMRO) to lead the Market Risk Management (“MRM”) team, communicate our market risk profile, and advise senior leadership on critical decisions.

MRM is the unit of Enterprise Risk Management responsible for overseeing market risk across the enterprise. This involves identification, measurement, analysis, control, capital assessment and communication of interest rate, equity market, credit spread, currency, derivative, and liquidity risks from economic, statutory, and GAAP perspectives. It also involves recommending market risk appetite relative to capital needs, supporting the enterprise process for liability replicating portfolios, stress testing for market events, and implementing a limit framework for managing market and liquidity risk usage across businesses.

The successful candidate for this Managing Director-level position will combine leadership and analytical skills to understand and manage our unique market risk profile. This leader will report to the head of Financial Markets Risk and will partner extensively across ERM and our Financial Management partners in support of global operations.

    Responsibilities:

    • Lead a team of finance, actuarial, and investment professionals within MRM.

    • Own and evolve models, analytics, and frameworks to ensure market risks are properly understood and managed.

    • Coordinate with Financial Management partners to ensure market risk is appropriately reflected in capital, liquidity, and risk appetite frameworks.

    • Effectively communicate the company’s market risk profile to senior leaders, the Board, regulators, and rating agencies.

    • Partner with teams across Prudential to advise and support strategic transactions, hedging solutions and asset liability matching strategy.

    • Accountability for quantification of General Account and Variable Annuity Market economic capital.

    • Engage with industry peers, regulators, and other policymakers on key regulatory and accounting issues impacting market risk.

    • Develop emerging talent and continue to support building the depth across the Market Risk team.

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum of 15 years of highly relevant financial services and/or insurance experience.

    • Extensive experience with asset liability management, cash and liquidity management, fixed income, and derivatives markets.

    • Ability to effectively interface with variable annuity hedging regarding strategies.

    • Preferred academic experience in Mathematics, Finance, Risk, Actuarial, Economics, Engineering, or related field with coursework indicating a breadth of interests and abilities.

    • Relevant professional designations such as CFA, FSA/ASA, or FRM are advantageous.

    • Excellent management and communication skills.
