    Job Classification:

    Finance & Accounting - Finance & Accounting

The Prudential Treasury Department has an opening for a Director (8P) position within the Enterprise Capital Frameworks team supporting the development, management, and communication of Prudential’s Costs of Capital.

The opening for Director, Cost of Capital, represents a unique opportunity for the candidate to lead the creation, implementation and management of frameworks and policies that enable Prudential to grow smartly while protecting customers and communicating with various stakeholders both internal and external. The Director will be relied upon to engage with senior leaders in Finance, Corporate Functions, and Business units to execute on the team’s priorities.

Cost of Capital is utilized in many of the most impactful decision making that Prudential undertakes. Costs of Capital are developed for PFI as a consolidated enterprise, each of the major Business Units both domestically and internationally, as well as for individual products to inform business mix, pricing, capital allocation, and value creation.

The Director should have a demonstrated track record of participating in cross-functional and business unit initiatives that balance the views of multiple constituents. The candidate should be comfortable independently advocating for their team’s views and be able to influence others and build strong relationships. A successful candidate will have strong core corporate finance and valuation skills with an ability to synthesize both conceptually and data-driven analyses into actionable insights for Business and Finance leaders.

The Enterprise Capital Frameworks team has a mix of both on-going responsibilities and project/ad-hoc work. A successful candidate will ideally have a strong background in capital management – though skills in accounting, strategy and capital markets are also highly valued and transferable to being successful in this role. It is not a requirement to have had prior-Treasury experience.

The responsibilities are diverse and will include (but not be limited to) the following:

    • Lead the development, evolution, and enhancement of enterprise Costs of Capital frameworks and policies:
o Partner with Prudential Business Units and Functions to develop Business Unit and Product Costs of Capital and lead the annual update processes
o Lead the annual update of Enterprise Cost of Capital
o Partner on ad-hoc and new product development processes to develop Product Costs of Capital as needed

    • Support enterprise initiatives to enable growth, measure financial strength, and evolve enterprise frameworks not owned by Treasury

    • Partner with Corporate Development on merger & acquisition analyses that require deal-specific Costs of Capital

    • As an subject matter expert, lead the Treasury Department’s contribution to making “grow smart” decisions on product development, pricing, and capital allocation decisions.

The Treasury Department is responsible for broad activities related to the capital management of the company including the capital structure and funding, stakeholder management, and liquidity and financing operations. The Enterprise Capital Frameworks team, including Cost of Capital, supports the broader Enterprise Capital Frameworks and Stakeholder Management team.

Responsibilities of the position may vary depending on the candidate’s background, skills, and experience.

    Qualifications & Skills:

    • Demonstrated work experience in finance, accounting, risk management, actuarial, strategy, M&A or treasury field; ideally with a corporate finance background

    • Supervisory experience is preferred and may be expected in this role

    • MBA with finance or accounting concentration or other degree with CFA, CPA, ASA, or FSA designation

    • Strong knowledge of life insurance, risk management, and actuarial concepts, GAAP and statutory insurance accounting strongly preferred

    • Excellent oral and written communications skills with the ability to break down complex actuarial or financial concepts and communicate them to all levels of management.

    • Demonstrated leadership and partnering skills, including success in influencing outside of direct reporting line

    • Committed to continuous process improvement and ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment

    • Team player, but ability to be productive independently

    • Advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills, and strong project management skills

    • Knowledge of Prudential’s businesses and internal frameworks/systems is preferred
