Position summary

Job Title: Head of Business Development (C4i)

Location(s):  Remote with regular travel

Job Description:
Lead Business Development and Strategy activity for C4I.  This will require engagement with key stakeholders (internal and external), identifying and addressing their needs in order to develop strategy, identify and win opportunities, develop pipeline and deliver on contract growth. In order to support this objective, the successful candidate must have a track record in Business Development & Strategy, success on large captures, be expert in developing and implementing discriminating win strategies to secure new business and have knowledge of the MOD C4I customer.

The individual must be able to work effectively at senior levels within the business and across partner and customer organisations. They will ideally have experience in C4 and Intelligence systems and ideally one or more disciplines to include C2 and Multi-Int solutions and have credibility with both the Government but also the Industry community and their relevant stakeholders. They will also be required to liaise effectively with senior members of the Raytheon business in the US.

The individual will be accountable for all C4I Business Development and Strategy activities, reporting to the RSL Business Development Director and working alongside the Head of C4I. The successful candidate will;

Leadership

  • Demonstrate the RTX core values of Trust, Collaboration, Respect, Innovation and Accountability

  • Delegate roles, responsibilities, and decision-making appropriately; share responsibility and accountability with other BD staff, capture teams and other function staff
  • Mentor BD and capture team members in effective opportunity development and capture methods using lessons learned and best practices from across the company

 Customer Engagement

  • Identify and engage with customer decision-makers and influencers and determine their interrelationships to assure effective stakeholder engagement
  • Stay abreast of customer acquisition activities and approaches assessing and re-planning appropriate opportunity development activities
  • Develop and execute customer engagement plans that address customer’s internal factors; external factors; and customer’s perceptions of Raytheon to shape procurement decisions and ensure customer success
  • Use competitive intelligence tools and techniques to learn and assess customer issues, hot buttons and key performance parameters and appraise potential competitor solutions
  • Successfully maintain continuity of customer relationship through all phases of acquisition

Opportunity Management

  • Develop and maintain the C4I Long Range and Annual Operation Plan opportunities and bookings pipeline.
  • Develop and maintain the C4I New Business Investment (NBI) plan and deploy NBI in a holistic manner to realise strategy.
  • Create operational efficiencies through compliance with, and effective process tailoring of Winning New Business processes
  • Demonstrate ability to gain and maintain stakeholder buy-in and support, including commitment of right resources for plans and potential solutions
  • Support Capture/Bid Managers Work with developing proposal strategies and budget
  • Develop timely and relevant knowledge of RTX, our competition, customers, users, and the market to influence and shape requirements and develop winning strategies

Strategy Development

  • Develop and update the C4I Business strategy
  • Perform comprehensive customer strategy & policy assessment to support development of the C4I strategy
  • Perform comprehensive competitive assessment to determine prime/sub approaches and partnering approaches
  • Ensure opportunity capture strategies are consistent with the C4I Business strategy
  • Create sound business case and value propositions based on customer requirements
  • Translate strategy into executable opportunity profile and booking Targets

Agile Decision Making

  • Actively listens and solicit input from key internal and external stakeholders and capture team members
  • Determine when change is warranted and commits to course of action once decision is made
  • Define problems clearly using team inputs, thoughts and opinions
  • Identify alternate solutions, valuing diversity of thought and opinions
  • Take appropriate risks and accepts responsibility for outcomes

Relationship Management

  • Exploit networks within RTX, partners and the customer community

  • Actively listen in order to comprehend, interpret, and respond appropriately to internal and external stakeholders

  • Communicate openly and honestly to develop trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders

Required Skills & Experience

  • DV Cleared or the ability to gain clearance
  • Experienced in stakeholder, capture, bid and proposal management, including winning new, repeat or follow on business through leading and supplying winning proposals
  • A strong Capture/bid background with intimate understanding of the Defence procurement system and the requirements definition processes
  • Capable of managing and motivating a diverse multi-disciplined team in the delivery of innovative solutions
  • Must have strong people and influencing skills that can be applied at senior levels in Raytheon, with the customer and industry partners
