Senior Engineering Manager - Secure Software Product Lines

Mission Systems

The Integrated Missions Solutions Engineering (IMSE) Products department is responsible for the design, test and certification of secure mission computers, cross domain guards and other products that equip our warfighters to thrive in today’s multi-domain battlespace. The IMSE products department collaborates with portfolio teams to capture customer requirements, develop product roadmaps, manage product-line development, and oversee production and delivery.  

Job Responsibilities:

This Senior Engineering Manager will lead a team of software engineers to develop solutions for secure mission computers and cross domain guards. The secure software product line team enables data to flow across Multiple Levels of Security (MLS) with multi-threaded, embedded software applications and it develops board support packages for mission computers including drivers, boot and OS integration.

Ongoing development includes the Cross Domain Solution (CDS) for the Tactical Combat Training System Increment II (TCTS II), a next-generation wearable CDS for Army soldiers and small form factor mission computers for unmanned airborne applications. 

The responsibilities of this role include employee development, talent acquisition and retention, resource management, strategic support of the business, and driving predictable program performance. This leader should be highly motivated, have a passion for meeting commitments, and flexibility to support a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

This position is located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A comprehensive relocation package is available for qualified candidates.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of prior relevant experience OR 
    Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years’ experience OR 
    In absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience is required 
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 10 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws / regulations.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.  Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements 
  • Experience leading a team in defining requirements, developing architecture and design, performing subsystem- and/or software-level integration and verification
  • Proficient with real-time embedded software utilizing C/C++ and a real-time OS (threading, sockets, I/O)
  • Experience leading a team in performing software development while adhering to a rigorous formal development process
  • Bidding, planning and managing project budget, schedule, and scope 
  • Creating collaborative team cultures that drive predictable program performance to consistently meet business and customer commitments
  • Communicating effectively to a host of stakeholders across the technical spectrum, including customers, program management and senior leadership.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with information assurance and the NSA Risk Management Framework
  • Experience developing in the Agile framework
  • Experience with SEER bid estimating methodology
  • Preferred applicants will currently hold a Secret (or above) security clearance, or have held one within the past two years. Signing bonuses up to $25,000 are available for active security clearance holders whom apply external to Collins Aerospace.
