Position summary

We are seeking a Software Staff Engineer to support the Test Equipment Engineering team. The role will be focused on leading the design, documentation, integration, and support of LabVIEW based automated test equipment for aerospace products and systems. The staff engineer is considered a subject matter expert experienced in all aspects of the development process and leader within the team. The candidate will ensure that test equipment SW design and implementation meets the product testing and test coverage requirements. This role will be responsible to architect and develop large scale software applications for a variety of end products in a small team environment focused on utilizing, building, and maintaining a reusable LabVIEW software base.

This position will be onsite to start, and may offer the ability to work in a hybrid or remote environment depending on the phase of the assigned project.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Lead, design, develop, test, validate, and maintain software to meet test equipment requirements that are traceable to customer system specifications and software detail specifications for various types of specialized automated test equipment
  • Teach, train, and mentor a small team of software developers
  • Maintain and advance the development of a reusable and configurable standard software architecture
  • Develop and maintain test documentation, plans, procedures, and reports
  • Write requirements and detailed design documents
  • Develop Automatic Test Equipment (ATE) from conception through implementation
  • Troubleshoot complex issues that may be software, hardware, system, or product related to determine root cause and corrective action
  • Communicate technical issues through written, verbal and presentation media
  • Support to the manufacturing/operations group as needed to help ensure on-time delivery of product
  • In performing these activities, the Software Engineer will interface with Customers, External Suppliers, Program Managers, Engineering Managers, Mechanical, Software, Electrical, and Systems Engineers, as well as the Manufacturing organization
  • Project management of various projects with small teams of test engineers and outsourced test equipment hardware build

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of prior relevant experience OR
  • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience OR
  • In absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience is required
  • 3 plus years working in aerospace industry or other regulated industry
  • Strong programming skills in a modern high level computer language (LabVIEW preferred), Python, C++
  • Experience with requirements driven development
  • Experience working with and/or managing remote resources
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment – where priorities change
  • Able to work both autonomously as well as part of a team
  • Experience generating and presenting project status
  • Strong organization, communication, and multi-task skills
  • Hands-on Aerospace / Military hardware design, build, test and integration experience (or in regulated industry)
  • Competent in using Microsoft Office applications
  • Must be a U.S. Person/Permanent Resident “Green Card” holder

Preferred Qualifications:

  • National Instruments Certified LabView Architect (CLA)
  • Familiarity with standard avionics busses including 1553, ARINC, CAN, RS485, RS232, and 1394
  • Experience with PXI based National Instruments hardware, cRIO, FPGA, and data acquisition systems
  • Strong background in electrical troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with project planning, budgets, and Microsoft Project
  • Exposure to test systems for one or more of the following: electronic subsystems, battery subsystems, GPS subsystems, fin and/or canard control subsystems, mission computer subsystems, telemetry subsystems, inertial navigation systems
  • Able to function at a high level with multiple tasks and projects, and to effectively change direction based upon business needs
