Position summary

Threading the needle between strategy, technology, entertainment, and finance to make big things happen

Roku is changing how the world watches TV

From your first day at Roku, you’ll make a valuable — and valued — contribution. We’re a fast-growing public company where no one is a bystander. We offer you the opportunity to delight millions of TV streamers worldwide while gaining meaningful experience across a variety of disciplines.

About the Corporate Development team

Roku’s Corporate Development team threads the needle between strategy, technology, entertainment, and finance, driving important projects that determine when we build, rent, or buy our next leap forward. Our team is small, providing the opportunity for outsized impact and exposure with Roku’s senior business, product and technology leaders. Think of us as a strategic skunkworks, always plotting and seeking new ways to accelerate our roadmaps and bring additional strength to Roku.

We are super selective about the deals we pursue. But on your best days, you’ll feel the exhilaration of bringing together all the pieces of a challenging transaction that meaningfully advances the growth of the company. For people who like to ideate and question, who have the resolve to get things done, who can think analytically and strategically about a diverse array of challenges, there’s nothing like making a genuine difference in the course of a company like Roku. And that’s what we do every day.

About the role

Roku is looking for an experienced Manager to join its Corporate Development team. This role will report to the Director of Corporate Development.

The person in this role will have responsibility for vetting, recommending, and executing a range of potential transactions, including mergers and acquisitions as well as complex commercial relationships. This role requires a strategic mindset, as well as exemplary analytical, financial, and communications skills. You will work directly on projects with senior members of the Corporate Development and Finance teams and other senior executives across the company, including Roku’s CEO and CFO.

Our environment is fast-paced, requiring the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision in an ever-changing environment. You will need to demonstrate excellent problem-solving skills. The right mix of organizational and communication skills is key to success. We are looking for people ready to lead by example, be selfless in your leadership across teams, collaborate with your peers, and partner with colleagues and external partners.

**What you’ll be doing

**

  • Evaluate potential acquisitions, strategic partnerships, and investment opportunities from a qualitative and quantitative perspective
  • Develop detailed financial models, valuation scenarios, and recommendations for potential transactions, working closely with the FP&A Directors of the various business units
  • Support senior leaders in driving consensus on complex strategic and financial questions with engagement from executives, domain experts, and functional teams
  • Develop insightful analysis of key industry trends, emerging areas of opportunity, and the competitive and regulatory landscapes and inform the organization of their strategic implications
  • Work with business and product teams to understand their roadmaps and needs to help inform deal sourcing and priorities
  • Collaborate with product, analytics, technology, legal, finance, and other functional teams to drive deal diligence, integration planning, documentation, and implementation
  • Distill complex diligence findings and investment cases into clear, compelling presentations and other communications for review by senior executives and the Board of Directors

**We’re excited if you have

**

  • An MBA from a top-tier school
  • 5+ years of corporate development, investment banking, private equity and/or management consulting experience (technology or media company experience preferred)
  • Experience originating and driving deal processes and diligence, including interaction with counter parties and advisers, for a wide variety of transactions
  • Work experience overseas and with international/cross-border deals a plus
  • Track record developing and executing complex commercial relationships a plus
  • Exceptional communicator with the ability to present concepts, recommendations, and analyses to senior management in a clear, concise, and actionable manner
  • Ability to build and maintain a network of senior-level relationships externally and internally to facilitate deal sourcing and prioritization
  • Experience aligning and driving cross-functional teams
  • Superior problem solving and project management skills, with the ability to proactively manage numerous projects with competing timelines
  • Proven track record of advanced analytical skills; must be able to define and execute key analyses with minimal supervision
  • Highly organized with superior attention to detail
  • Experience reviewing legal agreements and working with counsel to iterate deal documentation
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment
  • Results-driven and able to strike the right balance between detail-focused and grasping the big picture
  • Must be able to synthesize and draw conclusions from copious amounts of raw data
  • Self-starter that takes the initiative and is driven by new challenges
  • Passion for learning and relentless improvement

The Roku culture

Roku is a great place for people who want to work in a fast-paced environment where everyone is focused on the company’s success rather than their own. We try to surround ourselves with people who are great at their jobs, who are easy to work with, and who keep their egos in check. We appreciate a sense of humor. We believe a fewer number of very talented folks can do more for less cost than a larger number of less talented teams. We’re independent thinkers with big ideas who act boldly, move fast and accomplish extraordinary things through collaboration and trust. In short, at Roku you’ll be part of a company that’s changing how the world watches TV.

We have a unique culture that we are proud of. We think of ourselves primarily as problem-solvers, which itself is a two-part idea. We come up with the solution, but the solution isn’t real until it is built and delivered to the customer. That penchant for action gives us a pragmatic approach to innovation, one that has served us well since 2002.
