About The Role:
Roku is seeking a versatile QA Engineer (Contract) for testing software/firmware for major product releases. You will be responsible to formulate the test strategy, design test cases and handle the testing of new products in early development phases, communicating with internal development teams and external partners. You should be able to handle one or more features independently. You will represent QA concerns in meetings with cross-functional, project team members and also provide valuable end-user feedback to improve the customer experience.

This position requires good understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC), strong written and organizational skills. It is critical to have some hands on knowledge of Smart/Digital TV's, HDMI, Set Top Boxes, Wi-Fi and TV remote controllers

What you'll be doing

  • Work as part of a team of experienced QA engineers onsite/remote testing multiple software releases
  • Work closely with the Firmware development and QA teams to test new Roku software on new products as well as existing platforms
  • Create test plans and test cases for new features and ensure that adequate test coverage provided
  • Modify existing test plans and test cases based on changes to the software/firmware
  • Troubleshoot issues down to the root cause and be able to create detailed bug reports
  • Prepare precise Test Completion reports for Management to review and approve the release(s)
  • Test compatibility with HDMI/HDCP, Wi-Fi networks/routers, audio/video streaming file types

Minimum Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Software development methodology and understanding of QA concepts for software or consumer electronics products
  • Familiarity with Digital TV, STB, home networking, and/or Wi-Fi
  • User level experience with video display, audio output, streaming is preferred
  • Experience with video/audio equipment(s) is a strong plus
  • Experience with generating and presenting quantitative reports
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortable and adaptable in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, methodical and committed to driving quality forward
  • Knowledge of consumer product and user interfaces and networking functionality
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent
