About the Advanced Development Team
The advanced development team pushes the boundaries beyond product lines to build new things. We think independently of standard shipping cadences and timelines, working on foundational technologies that will impact every Roku device in the future and on ideas that no one’s seen in their living room. Yet.
An exceptional team needs exceptional talent. Everyone here is an expert but without the myopia of over-specialization. They have the technical expertise to let them see the bigger picture but can still go deep into the minutia, pushing back against convention and building something singular and new. They foster a keen sense of collaboration and trust with little room for drama. Together, this is a team of people who love to make decisions and own those decisions.
About the Role
Roku is seeking a web application engineer to create new web-based applications and tools that accelerates the development of the RokuOS firmware used in millions of devices worldwide. These tools will make our developers be better informed -- both about their own code quality as well as the development velocity for the entire organization. Candidates should have a passion for improving how people can work together through better automation, workflows, and metric visualizations.
What you’ll be doing
Design, develop and deploy full-stack, scalable web applications -- being a part of everything, from contributing to web technology and framework stack, to use case and data model design
Analyze the current development tools and firmware development processes, gather requirements, and propose new web applications and automated solutions to accelerate development.
Create dashboards and metrics visualizations tools that provide immediate feedback to developers and engineering leaders on effectiveness of developer workflows.
Participate in ‘build or buy’ decisions on new development tools and software.
Support and improve existing web applications and tools.
We’re excited if you have
5+ years of experience in architecting, designing, and maintaining scalable web applications.
Experience in software architecture, object-oriented design, data structures, and problem solving
Experience with open standards, web technologies, frameworks/libraries such as Node.js, React, Sass/CSS, etc. and database experience with GraphQL, PostgreSQL, RDS, noSQL, etc.
Passion for data, and experience with developing data visualization dashboards that are easy to read, understand, and help drive behavior and culture.
Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and embedded development preferred.
Experience with cloud deployment technologies, AWS preferred.
