    The Additive Aero-Thermal Engineer will advance additive manufactured materials technology with a focus on heat exchangers.  Additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, is an emerging technology that enables innovative designs and approaches to thermal management solutions for engine and airframe applications.  The materials and complex geometries are not yet well defined, so a significant effort is required to fully characterize the heat exchanger performance. The efforts and decisions by the Aerothermal engineer will shape the future state of additive heat exchangers used for aerospace applications.  

    The Engineer, Aero-Thermal Engineering will work with an integrated design team of project engineering, manufacturing, structures, purchasing and other product functions. In this team, the Aero/Thermal Engineer will collaborate with the team to generate designs/components that meet the internal and external customers’ needs and requirements. You will communicate throughout the development stage to management and the customer on the design, progress, and how it complies with the requirements.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Work with an Integral Product Development team to develop additive manufactured heat exchangers
    • Execute the design and analysis of heat exchanger components
    • Establish and mature Aero/Thermal capabilities within heat exchanger product line.
    • Develop product specific methods for use in the design and analysis of heat exchanger components not limited to, but including•1-D thermodynamic sizing of traditional and additively manufactured heat exchangers
    • Component level thermal analysis
    • 3-D CFD-based evaluation of component performance
    • Propose & design test procedures for heat exchanger testing
    • Recommend CFD inputs & outputs for heat exchanger analysis
    • Evaluate test data to verify or improve heat exchanger performance
    • Witness and support testing to ensure correct testing methods are used
    • Brainstorm new installations and geometries to maximize system-level performance
    • Understand trends and conclude findings from test data
    • Postprocess and communicate data to leadership and customers

    Basic Qualifications:

    • In absence of a degree, 6 years of relevant experience is required
    • Engineering/Other Technical Positions: Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations
    • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.  Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience with project / program management
    • Experience with additive manufacturing
    • Experience with sizing of traditional and additively manufactured heat exchangers
    • Experience performing CFD on complex geometries to aid in thermal sizing/optimization of Heat exchangers
    • Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Excel and Project experience
    • MatLab experience
    • Basic understanding of optimization concepts
    • Understanding of common instrumentation techniques for temperature, pressure, flow rate, etc., measurements.
