    Collins Aerospace is looking for an experienced Cyber Security Software Engineer that can lead the development of secure architectures & designs for our next generation control systems.  The position will be responsible for creating and refining software security architectures for embedded systems, implementing software designs on both bare metal and virtualized resources, and conduct verification activities in support of aircraft certification.  This position requires expertise with embedded system security architecture and design, modern cryptographic techniques, proficiency with embedded computing systems, software architecture principles as they apply to embedded software, experience with aerospace software product lifecycles, and experience with software integration and verification techniques.

    This position is for an Associate Director of Software Engineering with deep knowledge and highly developed technical expertise.  This role will consist of conducting and coordinating software development activities, conducting complex tests, debugging systems with control and diagnostic capabilities, make recommendations to management on ways to improve cost and quality of software products, implement critical software system capabilities, prepare, and present design reviews, and coordinate software development activities across multiple organizations.

    REMOTE: This is a remote position with the expectation to travel on site to Windsor Locks, CT every 6-8 weeks.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Create and refine software security architectures for embedded control and diagnostic systems that meet customer requirements and needs

    • Perform vulnerability analysis & assessments for product systems

    • Create cryptographic libraries for various processor architectures certifiable to DO-178C standards

    • Develop methods and lead efforts for product penetration testing

    • Lead efforts to develop a training curriculum to educate current staff on cybersecurity principles

    • Implement designs on both bare metal and virtualized platforms

    • Ensure software meets performance metrics through utilization of instrumentation and benchmarks

    • Make recommendations to management on ways to improve cost and quality of software products

    • Conduct multidisciplinary research and collaborate with equipment designers in the planning, design, development, and utilization of control and diagnostic systems

    • Develop & tailor software security standards for company-wide use

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree (typically in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM)) and a minimum of 12 years of prior relevant experience unless prohibited by local laws/regulations OR
    • Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience OR
    • In absence of a degree, 16 years of relevant experience is required

    • Ability to work well in a strong collaborative team-oriented environment.
    • Ability to effectively present technical information to many different levels of the organization.
    • Demonstrated strong communication skills (written/spoken).
    • Demonstrated strong organizational skills.
    • Experience with security architecture development.
    • Experience in cybersecurity technology solution planning, engineering, and deployment
    • Proven ability to design, build and implement security systems for a production environment.
    • Ability to quickly acquire technical domain knowledge and contribute to the design of sophisticated architectural systems.
    • Strong background in the development of low-level software and complex embedded systems
    • Experience with DO-178C software development practices.
