In this role, you will evaluate, develop, and qualify processes with a focus on surface treatments for corrosion and adhesion applications for gas turbine engine components. You will interface with internal and external customers to define requirements, provide expert consultation, plan, and execute test plans, analyze results, author technical reports, and create/revise material and process specifications. In addition, you must be adept at creating, advocating for, and executing technology development programs, whether with internal P&W customers or US Government agencies.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Self-starter with an exceptionally high level of motivation and initiative, with strong interpersonal, written, presentation, and oral communication skills. In addition, you must be able to work effectively on cross functional teams to achieve the team goals.
    • Demonstrated ability for problem solving and have strong analytical skills, which includes the ability to participate in and lead technical root cause investigations.
    • Proficient in relevant manufacturing processes, such as cleaning, abrasive blasting, anodization, priming, plating, etc. along with the associated quality controls and functional tests to ensure conformance to defined engineering requirements.
    • Must have a deep knowledge of the fundamental physics and chemistry surrounding corrosion mechanisms and adhesive bonding, and understand the impact of chemistry, processing, and environment on material performance and durability. With that knowledge, the discipline leader will identify, develop, and validate novel testing protocols as well as modeling capabilities to better predict component durability (i.e., corrosion resistance) in the various field environments that our gas turbine engines operate.
    • Work with the discipline manager to ensure the discipline is healthy regarding capability (in skills, tools, and lab equipment) and capacity. As such, the discipline leader will be an active mentor for knowledge transfer and employee development of those in the discipline while also updating the standard work/procedures based on lessons learned, while also advocating for formal knowledge capture via technical reports stored in a modern knowledge management system.
    • Requires expert or mastery level knowledge of work area, typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience.
    • May have deep knowledge of project management.
    • Advanced knowledge of related disciplines within work area and ability to identify links and potential impact on projects, programs, or systems.
    • 10% Travel Required

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or related field
    • 10+ years of relevant experience with aerospace development and qualification of surface treatments/preparation (i.e., cleaning methods, priming, anodic treatment, plating, corrosion protection) in a manufacturing environment, OR
    • An Advanced Degree in a related field and 7+ years of relevant experience
    • US Citizen due to government contracts

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • MS or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry
