We are looking for a Designer/Analyst to support Electric Power Systems who is a team player with a high level of initiative and the ability to work in an environment of rapidly changing priorities designing and analyzing complex aerospace product.
The role defined here combines two key areas of expertise, product design and product analysis, and the successful applicant will have the skills and flexibility to support both roles. As a designer, you will work directly with engineering staff to produce 3-D models and 2-D layout drawings of the product to meet both engineering and customer requirements. When analyzing a design, you will create tolerance build ups to support hardware functionality and drawing creation, ensuring the model and drawings accurately define a manufacturable product.
Experience with industry specifications and in-depth knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is used to ensure all drawings are complete (accurate, fully dimensioned and in alignment with build-up studies). You will also work closely with our detailing team, guiding and mentoring them to ensure drawing accuracy and organization, the proper usage of GD&T, the proper usage of standard features, manufacturing methodology and standard library information.

Primary Responsibilities:

Product Design and Definition (PDD) staff are expected to interface directly with Collins’ engineering teams in the design and development of product. You may be required to coordinate and interface with personnel in other Collins divisions throughout the world. Accordingly, good interpersonal communication skills and willingness to operate within a diverse and global workforce are mandatory.
You must be able to work effectively in a team environment, comprehend and implement oral and written inputs and coordinate with project planners on each program you support.
Strict adherence to the design process is mandatory for successful realization of Collins product for our demanding customers. Attention to detail is critical to ensure a safe and reliable product is placed into service.

Relevant design and drafting experience designing and analyzing complex assemblies in a 3-D mechanical environment.
Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical principles and demonstrated proficiency in reading and interpreting models, assembly, and piece part drawings.
An expert understanding of GD&T, ANSI Y14.5M dimensioning practices, as well as the ability to create a tolerance analysis for assemblies and piece parts is needed, as is a working knowledge of drafting and product lifecycle management (PLM) tools and general computer literacy
Proficiency with Siemens NX and Teamcenter in the design of electronic packaging is strongly preferred. The Collins primary toolset of choice is NX, but knowledge of other systems is also beneficial.
Manufacturing and leadership experience are a plus for the qualified applicant. As our Electric Power System business continues to evolve in the use of Model Based Definition (MBD) and Additive Manufacturing, experience with these technologies is desirable.
